22 Reasons I Love My Big Sister
Peyton Gorham

Yeah, having a sibling can be hard and quite a pain at times. Especially when you don't always get along, but you love them always, even if sometimes it is really, really deep down. You know the saying, "You don't know what you got until it's gone." Well, in my case it is you don't know what you got until it is almost gone. My sister means so much to me, and I never really realized until I could have lost her two years ago. My sister and her boyfriend decided to go skydiving, and my brilliant sister didn't want to go tandem. She ended up taking an 8-hour course so that she could go by herself for her FIRST TIME. The day they were finally going, and she sent me a picture in her jumpsuit, I just had a feeling something bad was going to happen... and it did. I got a call at work that my sister was in the hospital. Her parachutes did not deploy correctly and she landed in a cornfield, narrowly missing a powerline. She lived and luckily only had a fractured vertebra and a messed up ankle when it could have been a lot worse. At first, I was mean to her; I think it was because I was mad, but now I realize how lucky I am she is still here. Don't take people you love in your life for granted, they can disappear in the blink of an eye. Here are 22 reasons I love my big sister and I'm happy she is still alive!

1. You will always have my back.

2. We can cause trouble together.

3. We can team up against mom and dad.

4. You tell me you love me nonstop when you are drunk.

5. We can share clothes, or more like steal them, from each other.

6. You are so fun to annoy (especially when we were younger).

7. I can tell you anything.

8. If anything ever happened to mom and dad, I know you would still be there.

9. You let me babysit my niece and nephew (dogs).

10. I know there will always be something to eat when I get to your house.

11. When a teacher won't let me do my final presentation, you physically go to the school and confront them. Yes, that actually happened.

12. You are always up for a movie night.

13. You bent over backward just to make sure you made it to my graduation.

14. You save me when I am in trouble with mom and dad...sometimes.

15. I can always call you upset and you always put a smile on my face.

16. I feel bad for the person whoever tries to mess with me and you find out...

17. We can share friends...well not really but I love your friends.

18. You have worked so hard to get to where you are now in life.

19. You support me in anything I do.

20. You are an amazing nurse.

21. We share the best mom and dad.

22. You are my best friend.

I am proud to call you my sister!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
