22 Lessons I Learned in 22 Years

We're happy, free, confused and lonely at the same time.

I haven’t been alive for that long as Taylor Swift would say in her hit song 22, “we’re happy, free, confused and lonely at the same time. It’s miserable and magical.”

It feels like a long time to me, but in reality, I know it’s not even close.

Within these few years, I have made good and bad choices. However, every choice has lead me to where I am now. If you could go back and change any decision you’ve made, your life would be completely different.

Yes, I'm only 22, but here's 22 lessons I've learned so far:

1. No matter how hard I try, I can’t always be right.

2. Even when I try to be right, I need to learn from my mistakes.

3.Things will always get better, no matter how hard they may seem.

4. I can never give up.The best is yet to come. That’s the beauty of the future.

5. Success comes in many forms, no matter how small.

6. There’s always a bright side to every situation.

7. A simple smile goes a long way.

8. People will always come and go.

9. Family is forever.

10. Social media doesn’t define who you are.

11. Take risks as often as you can.

12. Taking time for yourself isn’t a bad thing.

13. Your grades and test scores do not define who you are as a person.

14. Learn to move on, even when it’s the hardest thing you have to do.

15. Don’t take everything so serious all the time.

16. Laughter really is the best medicine.

17. Do things that make you happy.

18. Learn to love yourself.

19. Don’t be so hard on yourself.

20. No one is perfect.

21. Always work after your dreams.

22. Always say yes to the second slice of pizza because everyone knows it tastes better than the first.

Taylor Swift has it spot on because 22 is an age where you’re a mix of emotions but there is so much more of your life to live. So don't forget-- live each day to the fullest and like you’re “feelin’ 22!”

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
