I am on a budget like most college students out there, but I am also an avid adventurer. Here are 22 Chaco-worthy ways to tourist in the Charleston area for little to nothing. If you don't own Chacos, please go buy some.

1. Middleton Place Plantation

Built in 1755, Middleton Place Plantation is home to Versailles-style gardens and a large population of goats.

2. Sullivan's Island Beach

Sullivan's Island is home to a panoramic view of the Charleston Penninsula and to Fort Moultrie, which is a military fort that is well-known for its part in the Revolutionary War.

4. Fort Sumter National Monument

The first shots of the American Civil War were fired from this Charleston must-see.

Waterfront Park plays host to quaint shops, hotels, and the iconic Pineapple Fountain.

Patriot's Point offers patrons a variety of attractions for their money which includes tours of the U.S.S. Yorktown aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Laffey naval destroyer, U.S.S. Clamagore submarine, and a Vietnam War interactive exhibit.

11. Mount Pleasant Pier & Memorial Waterfront Park

This location beneath the Ravenal Bridge in Mount Pleasant, S.C. offers beautiful views of the Holy City no matter the time of day.

13. Dock Street Theatre

The Dock Street Theatre is known to be the first theatre in the American Colonies, as the first show ever performed on its stage took place in February of 1736.

The Charleston Museum offers reasonable admission prices and package deals that include admission the museum itself, and to other historic locations owned by the museum scattered throughout the city.

15. H.L. Hunley Conservation Lab

The H.L. Hunley submarine is famously known for having been attacked and presumably destroyed off the coast of Charleston during the Civil War in 1864. The ruins of the submarine were finally discovered off of the coast of the city in August of 2000. The craft is preserved thanks to the Friends of the Hunley, and tours of the H.L. Hunley Conservation Lab are available weekly.

17. The College of Charleston & The Cistern Yard

One of several colleges and universities located in the Charleston area, the College of Charleston gives us the Cistern Yard, which is an iconic location for the college and for the city of Charleston.


18. Marion Square

Marion Square is often times considered to be the center of downtown Charleston. It is home to wine and food festivals, as well as the local farmer's market on the weekends.

Located about forty-five minutes outside of Charleston, "Edislow" is home to mom-and-pop shops and miles of serene beaches.

21. Magnolia Plantation & Gardens

Magnolia Plantation began as an operating plantation in 1676, and it opened it's doors to tourists in the late 1800s. It is home to world renowned gardens and it is often referred to as "Charleston's most-visited plantation."

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.
