22 Things To Do Before Graduating From Towson University

The Ultimate Towson Bucket List

Many people will tell you throughout your undergraduate career that college is “the best four years of your life” if you play your cards right. Whether it’s reminiscing on our craziest nights uptown or the day we met the friends who will make up our bridal parties, we all want to look back years from now knowing we truly got the most from our time as Tigers.

Campus construction and the pasta line in Ptux may never come to an end, but our time at Towson, where our every wish is granted with the swipe of our One Cards, eventually will. As a rising (and nostalgic) senior, I’m beginning to realize that although my college experience has been meaningful, there are still so many things I hope to do before leaving my home away from home.

People from all over the world have created “bucket lists” of things they want to do before death or reaching major life milestones. With the exception of our beloved super-seniors who are clueless as to when college will be coming to an end, our “best years” will pass us by in the blink of an eye, if we are not careful. Although other colleges have created general bucket lists for undergrads, it’s time our Towson students had a guide to follow in order leave TigerTown with "no ragrets" as Scotty P would put it.

(If you run into any trouble while completing this checklist, it's totally on you).

1. Ride the Tiger statue after a night out with your friends and take a picture.

2. Now take the picture when you’re sober so your parents don't feel like they're wasting their money.

3. Eat at every Towson dining hall, even the hard to find spots like in the Admissions building.

4. Order a crab pretzel and a Natty Boh from Bill Bateman’s happy hour to show your Maryland pride.

5. Dance on the Dickey’s ledge .

6. Pull an all-nighter at Club Cook during finals week (you’ll be surprised by how much free food you get).

7. Attempt to beat the plate record at Kyodai Rotating Sushi bar.

8. Sign up for fraternity or sorority recruitment. Even if you don’t think it’s you’re thing, you might be surprised by the people you meet!

9. Skip a class to track down the free Ritas on campus.

10. Fight the crowds at THB for that breakfast sandwich after a rough night out.

11. Make friends with a Jimmy’s Cab driver. Whether you like it or not, they’re the closest thing to a responsible guardian you will find on a weekend night.

12. School the Paws regulars in ping pong and pool.

13. Eat at Miss Shirley's at least once.

14. Order an Irish Car Bomb at Kent House and (attempt) to take it like a champ.

15. Sneak into the DJ booth and drop a sick beat at Torrent .

16. Play an intramural sport even if you suck.

17. Order food at The Real Thing and play throwbacks on the juke box.

18. Find your lifelong friends and cut out the cancers in your life.

19. Go to as many Towson sporting events as possible and actually stay the whole time.

20. Visit your friends’ hometowns.

21. Order a hot dog and play with the pup on the corner of York and Pennsylvania Avenue on your way home from the bars.

22. Pop champagne at your favorite spot on campus on graduation day.

This is simply a guideline for you to follow when carrying out the remainder of your college career at Towson. Everyone at TU has different interests and priorities, so take some time this summer to think about how you'll make your mark and build lasting memories you'll someday share with you children and grandchildren.

When I now look at the people who still live in the glory days of college, I wonder if they walked away from their alma mater wishing they had done more. Towson has a great deal to offer its students, so don't let your time at Towson be anything less than remarkable — use this opportunity to make them "the best years of your life."

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
