Turning 21 In Quarantine Isn't Actually As Terrible As You Would Think

I've always dreamed of going to the bars as soon as I turned 21, but what actually happened was a dream and even better as I expected.

Turning 21 In Quarantine Isn't Actually As Terrible As You Would Think

Since my birthday last year, I have looked forward to going to the bars on my 21st birthday and celebrating with my friends and family. My brother and I were born four years and a day apart, so we have been sharing birthday celebrations for as long as I can remember.

Finally, I was going to have a big birthday of my own.

Being four years younger than my older brother, I have always felt left out of Friday and Saturday night activities. Yes, they include me when they stay in and drink with their friends, but the thought of finally being able to drink with them out (legally) was so exciting.

But then coronavirus came and ruined all plans of going to a bar the day I turned 21! (Bummer, I know!)

But the party that I did have was more amazing then I could have ever imagined, especially being stuck at my house all day. My mom and sister in-law could tell I was bummed, so they got to party planning and created the best 21st birthday party I could have dreamed for.

The day started off with my favorite breakfast when drinking, Pedialyte and an everything bagel followed by an iced latte from Dunkin'. Ladies, you have to get the carbs in before a full day of drinking!

When I walked outside, I was shocked at all the hard work that they had put into making my 21st special. There were different sections for different people to visit, some of which I haven't seen since quarantine started.

My mom had a giant sign printed with my face on it, embarrassing I know (lol,) that read "honk for Sidney's 21st Birthday." For every honk that happened, I would have to drink. I had neighbors, family members and random people driving by and honking.

Boy, did that put me one foot in the grave!

Every 30 minutes to an hour, new people would stop by to visit and hang out with us! I had family and friends bring me bunches of balloons that filled my room for days! Some of who I haven't seen in a year or so and was so surprised to see!

I honestly had the best time and probably a better time then if we weren't practicing social distancing.

I want to say a big thank you to everyone that drove by, honked, and came over to celebrate my birthday.

But more importantly, I want to say thank you to my parents and sister in-law for putting together such a special weekend. You really made me feel special and celebrated even though I spent it at home and unable to hug anyone.

This will go down as one of the best birthdays ever!

I thought senioritis in high school was rough until I became a college senior about to go into the real world. I'm supposed to have everything figured out, right? I mean I went through four years of tough classes and serious self-searching (and crying). What I found overall was Senioritis sneaking up on me.

College is filled with many things, and we're so often lectured to make the right decisions as we head out on our own into the college life. But sometimes it's necessary to indulge in some guilty pleasures as well as just doing things because you can. And honestly, a lot of the time it's inevitable. College is no piece of cake that's for sure, so it's okay to do some things you deep down know you shouldn't....once in a while anyways.
