21 Thoughts While Flying By Yourself For The First Time

Growing up is inevitable. Pretty soon you are overwhelmed by the pressure of becoming a mature human being and expected to do things without your parents' guidance.

And so, the day that you always knew would come, is finally here: flying and navigating the airport for the first time alone. You are overwhelmed with fear, anxiety, and ultimately, popped ears.

1. Boarding passes. I know those things are important -- so important that my mom usually holds onto mine until we get to the gate.

Wait, but she's not here (panics internally, trying to keep calm at the boarding pass kiosk).

2. I just know my luggage is going to get lost, as I am putting my luggage on the scale.

3. Oh, man, security. The big leagues.

I probably look suspicious traveling alone.

4.Uh oh, I have hand sanitizer, is that under 3.5 fluid ounces?

Maybe I should've used a Ziploc baggie.

5. I want my mom.

6. Oh, my, turn to go through,

Beep, beep, sounds the machine. The less-than-enthused airport employee impatiently tells me I have forgotten to take off my shoes.

7. There are 25 people behind you, watching you, as you put your shoes on the conveyor belt; you start to tremble a bit and fall apart.

Now I really want my mom, you think to yourself as your face turns bright red in shame.

8. Upon approaching the boarding gate: uh oh, I normally sit with my family, who do I sit with now?

9. I'm going to sit by the most cute of old ladies, that's a safe bet.

10. Goes to buy a coffee, Uh oh, I only have $3.50 to my name.

11. Puts headphones in. What if I miss boarding?

Nonchalantly takes headphones out.

12. Sudden urge to use the bathroom. But who will sit with my stuff?

13. Upon getting on the plane, Ugh, I hate middle seats.

14. You decide to sit next to what looks like a person your age, Should I make conversation with them?

15. Do not fall asleep on them, do not fall asleep on them, do not fall asleep on them.

16. Okay, take off, you can do this.

17. Has to use restroom during flight, I'm too nervous to ask the person next to me to get up.

Decides to hold it for remaining hour and a half.

18. Upon landing -- success, did not die.

19. Walks out of airplane, immediately calls mother to tell her you have arrived safely -- and because that was the most terrifying experience of your whole life.

20. Goes to baggage claim -- mental celebration that my bag made it here.

21. Takes what is left of dignity. Okay, now about getting around this foreign city.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

Because we made it, and because high school seniors deserve to know what they're getting themselves into

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!
