21 Things You Do With/For Your Hallmate

Shout-out to my hallmate for making sure I always have something to do and someone to do it with.

A hallmate is defined as one who lives in the same hall of a residence as another person. However, a hallmate is much more than a next-door neighbor. A hallmate is someone you can always count on to do things with. And for me personally, a hallmate is the roommate I no longer have.

1. Binge-watch Netlix

2. Go on Walmart runs

It's 2 a.m. and you absolutely need more Arizona tea, or you're out of tampons, toothpaste or shampoo, so you barge into your hallmate's room and beg them to drive you since you're careless and for some odd reason they say yes. Or maybe you just want to fool around in Walmart like the girl above.

3. Share closets

Double, triple, or even quadruple amount of outfit options? Um, yes please! Plus your hall mates always have quirky signature pieces you can't find anywhere.

4. Gossip or vent

Your hallmates know everything about you and every boy/girl you like or don't like, and you know everything about them and the boys/girls they like or don't like.

5. Order way too much pizza

Spending $20 on pizza to have garlic breath is a recurring occurrence in college and it's OK.

6. Help each other with schoolwork

Whether it's tutoring each other, lending each other supplies, or complaining about the class instead, your hallmates always be there to help even if it's not the best idea.

7. Have sleepovers

Sleepovers are not "so middle school." Sleepovers are awesome!

8. Party

This one is a given. Your hallmates will always be done to party with you.

9. Shower together

No, I don't mean actually shower in the same shower. I mean bring your speakers in and shower at the same time, while jamming out to some Jimmy Buffet of course.

10. Watch old Disney movies

Old Disney did it better and some days "Cheetah Girls" at 12:30 a.m. is just what you need.

11. Go on adventures

Your hallmates are usually up for anything: hiking, trying new things, causing trouble, etc.

12. Nap

Napping alone is fun, but napping with a hallmate is even more fun!

13. Cuddle

This goes with napping. Nothing is better than cuddles with your hallmates.

14. Give each other advice

You and your hallmate give each other boy advice, fashion advice, friend advice, and any other advice you might need.

15. Go on food runs

Cook Out, Chick-fil-A, Sheetz, Starbucks, you name it, most hall mates have made a food run there.

16. Sit and do nothing

Some people think it's weird sitting and doing nothing, but that's because they just can't handle it, but you and your hallmates can and do for hours.

17. Eat meals together

You're hungry? Don't want to go alone? A hallmate will be feeling the exact same way and, bam, both of your problems are solved!

18. Have dance sessions

My gymnastics coach always said, "When in doubt, dance it out." Let's face it, college is full of doubts, so dancing it out with your hallmates is a must.

19. Walk straight into their rooms

Knocking is nice, but not always necessary with your hall mates. You find yourself walking into their rooms on the daily for just about anything.

20. Take care of each other

Mom and dad might not be at school, but my hallmates are and they make sure I'm safe, happy, and healthy, which is very much appreciated.

21. Love each other

This is the most important one out of the whole entire list and is self-explanatory.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
