Turning 21 is a big deal. There's no more panicking about whether the club you are going to tonight is actually 18+ or not. There's no more having to beg your older friends to go to the liquor store for you. There's no more Thursday nights spent watching Netflix wondering how much all your friends are having out at the bar. You can now drink legally. But, with great power (and age) comes responsibility. Here are 21 things to remember when you turn 21.
1. Alcohol costs money.
$12 for a beer in the big cities. You can get a six pack for less.
2. Designated drivers have a whole new meaning.
Just because you're old enough, doesn't mean you can forget about safety.
3. You have to spend some nights in.
Remember to rest.
4. You still have other responsibilities.
You have things to do besides drink.
5. You're buying everyone alcohol now.
(You trying to remember what they all wanted.)
6. A dry dorm is still a dry dorm.
You may be old enough to drink, but not in this building!
7. Birthdays don't matter anymore.
Your last fun birthday has passed.
8. Fake IDs are now your pet peeve.
Don't pretend like you didn't have one a month ago.
9. You're almost a real adult now.
Time to set an example ... right?
10. The bar isn't always a good time.
Creepy people exist. And they basically live at the bar.
11. You still have friends who are under 21.
Remember the little people while you're out partying.
12. Hangovers are still a thing. Actually, they're worse.
The older you get, the worse you feel the next morning.
13. Don't bring your favorite coat to the bar.
You will lose it. I promise.
14. You need to get a real job real soon.
You better fix up that resume.
15. Start saving money.
Don't spend it all in one place bar.
16. Most people get married before they are 30.
Time to find that special someone!
17. You can't eat whatever you want anymore.
It's all finally catching up to you...
18. It's time to start working out.
Refer to point 17.
19. High schoolers are so weird now.
You're officially too old.
20. Renew your license.
"It won't take too long at the DMV," they said. "Just get it done quickly," they said.
21. You're still a kid at heart.
Always.
