Chicago is a magical place, but sometimes it can be frustrating if you're under 21 due to strict rules and regulations. It seems like there is a whole world you can't access no matter how good of a fake ID you have or who you may know. Don't fuss, here's a list of fun things to due without feeling like a 1st grader on a field trip.
1. Baseball Games
Regardless of if you're a Cubs or Sox fan, this is a timeless option. I'm going to be shamelessly bias, Wrigley Field is way better. Make sure to get a hot dog.
2. Botanic Gardens
It's outside of the city, but it's a beautiful, promising stroll.
3. Lincoln Park Zoo
If seeing animals caged up doesn't bother you, go to the Zoo. Try to go when it's not normal camp hours or you'll be swarmed by children in matching shirts and you won't like it.
4. Get Brunch
Chicago has the best food. Brunch makes food better. There you go.
5. Donuts
So many donuts. Go to Glazed and Infused or Stan's Donuts in Wicker Park . I promise you won't regret it.
6. Shopping on Michigan Avenue
It's a classic afternoon, but it's overwhelming. It's better for window shopping if you don't want to break the bank.
7. Urban Outfitters Surplus
In the city of Chicago we are blessed to home one of three Urban Outfitters Surplus stores. All the clothes are marked down and there is a great selection. Kiss your marked up, over priced Urban Outfitters goodbye.
8. China Town
Another fun classic. Authentic food with great shopping.
9. Little Italy
Do the classic summer time Chicago and go to Mario's Italian Ice down on Taylor Street. Even better, check out Mint a few stores down. Mario's son owns a clothing store with Chicago inspired street clothing.
10. Pizza
There's more than just the staple of deep dish pizza. Check out a cool spot like Happy Camper. It's a bar mixed with gourmet pizza. Pretty cool.
11. All You Can Eat Sushi
Volcano Sushi on Taylor Street offers all you can eat sushi for $15. Line up.
12. Skyline LSD Cruise
Ah, the best. You can cruise down Lake Shore Drive and get off by the museums. The best place to view the skyline is by the cement benches behind the Shedd Aquarium. You're welcome.
13. Movies in the Park
Look at your local park district's website for details or simply google: Chicago Movies in the Park for details.
14. Concerts
Not much is better than seeing your favorite band in a marvelous city.
15. Festivals
Festivals could be a little more exciting than a concert, for extended fun purposes. You can choose from Riot Fest, the notorious Lollapalooza, to the Chicago Blues Fest.
16. Museums
A beautiful thing about Chicago is the variety of museums. From the Shedd Aquarium, the Art Institute, and to the National Museum of Mexican Art: I promise there is a museum of interest for you.
17. Explore Neighborhoods
Explore a neighborhood other than your own. Chicago has 77 neighborhoods to check out. From the up and coming West Loop, thrift shopping in Wicker Park, to historic architecture in Old Irving Park, it's worth it.
18. Swimming
Hit up your local pool, not that Chicago has many because it's not permitable to have one in your backyard. Go swim in the lake.
19. Go on a Run
I don't run, but for all you mobile people out there. I've always wanted to go on a run down the lake, but I'm stuck panting after one block. I guess I'm a dreamer.
20. Dylan's Candy Bar
When in doubt, eat some overly priced candy. Or just eat a bunch of samples like I do.
21. Walk and Talk
When all else fails, go on a nice walk and talk to the one you love. You won't regret it.
