21 Things On My 2016 Bucket List

Seize the day (or the year).

21 Things On My 2016 Bucket List

Even with all the different New Year's Resolutions out there, people still struggle to keep them. I've chosen to make a list of specific goals for myself that everyone can follow that I know I can accomplish by the end of 2016.

1. Finish the 5 Peak Challenge.

I have yet to go on any hikes in San Diego, but I know this will force me to get out and do it.

2. Document my life more.

I love looking back at my Instagram and seeing pictures that bring back memories from my first year of college, but I didn't continue that the beginning of my second year. I hope to have written or photographic mementos to look back on later in my life.

3. Eat a smoothie every day.

After getting a Magic Bullet for Christmas, I've become inspired to eat more fruit. The only problem I have now is having room in my freezer for frozen fruit.

4. Reconnect with someone from my past.

I recently heard of a bunch of people reaching out to past teachers who made the most impact on their lives. Over 10 years later, the life lessons my fourth grade teacher taught me still stick with me and I want to thank him.

5. Try Bikram yoga.

My school's gym offers tons of fitness classes for free with gym memberships including half a dozen kinds of yoga. Why not?

6. Take a cocktail-making class.

2016 is the year I turn 21, so I figured I could impress all my friends when they finally turn 21.

7. Do 10 pushups.

What can I say, I have no upper body strength.

8. Do a pull-up.

See No. 7.

9. Sell something on Fiverr.

After discovering this gold mine of a website, I feel inspired to share my skills (and hopefully make some money).

10. Become a mentor for someone.

One of the things that make me happiest in life is knowing I've helped someone and made a difference in their life.

11. Be a movie or TV extra.

San Diego used to have a thriving film industry and I'm not too far away from Los Angeles. Who knows, maybe I'll get my big break.

12. Use my passport.

The easy way to accomplish this would be going to Tijuana (since I'm not far from the border) but I would love to travel anywhere.

13. Get eyelash extensions.

I keep seeing people who get this done and while it is extravagant, expensive, and totally unnecessary I still want to try it once. Treat yo'self.

14. Sell/donate old clothes.

I admit, I'm a hoarder. I have tons of clothes that I don't wear or need so I might as well give them people who do or sell them for a little extra cash.

15. Go to the snow.

The only time I have ever been in snow was at age 19 on Christmas Eve. I just want to build a snowman.

16. See a show/concert/play.

San Diego has tons and tons of musical acts come through the city all the time. I feel like I'm missing out if I don't take advantage.

17. Be more organized.

My academic life is fairly organized but my personal and professional life is fairly scattered. I need a planner or something to organize my life, not just my school work.

18. Regularly upload to Instagram.

This one kind of goes along with No. 2. I would love to have a digital scrapbook of memories but I also want to have a portfolio of social media use (considering my major is Media Studies and I work in social media for my school).

19. Blog regularly.

Just like no. 18, I would like to have a portfolio of my writing and my work to use as a Journalism-Media Studies major. I also enjoy writing and find it to be a great creative outlet.

20. Make other people happy.

Smile more. As much as you don't think it affects other people, it does. A smile can brighten someone else's day.

21. Make myself happy.

Smile more. As much as you don't think it affects you, it does. Fake it until you make it.

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
