For some people South Florida is their retreat, but for us it's home. Here's 21 ways to tell you're from South Florida:

1. You lived 10 minutes away from the beach.

2. You know where to go for the best subs.

3. Winter = below 70 degrees

4. You can spot a snowbird from a mile away.

5. We apologize for Ariana Grande and Pitbull.

6. You've got at least 5 different pairs of flip flops.

7. The weather changes in literally 30 seconds.

8. Hurricanes = parties

9. You almost get in a car accident 99% of the time.

10. Elvis Duran and the morning show is essential

11. Cockroaches are scarier than hurricanes and alligators.

12. You've taken family Christmas cards at the beach. (wearing white of course)

13. What is a basement?

14. What are seasons?

15. You're not really faded by the fact that a 15 foot alligator was found strolling through a golf course.

16. You've been to Rapids.

17. Road bridges qualify as mountains.

18. Publix and Target are the only stores you'll ever need.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.
