21 Signs You're An Old Lady At Heart

Being in college has caused you to feel like you’re a toddler as well as an old lady all wrapped up in one person. All you want to do is have fun with your life, but be able to sleep the majority of the time. You want to go out, but struggle with wanting a night to yourself. That is what an old lady at heart feels like and it has become a part of your identity.

Here are 21 signs you’re an old lady at heart.

1. You wake up already wanting to go back to bed

The day hasn’t even started yet and you want it to be time to go back to bed already. All of the responsibility of adulthood looks flattering, but being in your bed seems more your style at the moment and you’re not even ashamed of it. You know that when you’re in retirement you won’t have to set an alarm and worry about the demands of society so you take that time in the morning to remind yourself that your day will come to do just that.

2. You dream of being in bed at 9 p.m.

With the demands of school and work you already feel like you need more days in your week. You hope that you can get everything done so you and your bed can meet again. Coming home at the end of the day and realizing how productive you were to be able to be in bed with no responsibilities at 9 p.m. it almost feels like Christmas morning.

3. You need at least eight hours of sleep to function.

Your friends ask if you want to go out, but then realize you have class in the morning so you calculate if you will be able to receive eight hours of sleep. When you figure out you will be able to, you skip out on time with your friends so that you are able to get the sleep that you deserve you consider, "Me time is always the best time."

4. You have that one pair of house slippers and robe that no one is to see.

You have no shame in waking up, putting on your robe and slippers to go make a cup of coffee. They are your most comfortable items you have and you relish in being able to put them back on at the end of the day. However, you know that if you were to wear those two items out together it would not be socially acceptable.

5. You hate that you have to put on your contacts in the morning.

You ask yourself every single morning why you can’t just wear your glasses out into the world and then you remember you need to look presentable for your presentation. All you want to do is put on your over-sized glasses, but then remember it would only be acceptable once you reach the age of 60. You would totally bring them back into style if your eyelashes did not hit them each time you wore them with mascara.

6. Your hair seems to always be in a bun.

You know you may not look as put together as you want, but you remind yourself that your 60-year-old self would tell you to keep rocking it. Why care what people think because throwing your hair up is the easiest way to try out that new recipe.

7. Your dance moves and music is very outdated.

Your friend asks you to hand them your music and when they look at it, they question what century you're living in. Once they see your dance moves they are able to determine you are not meant to live in this era. However, you’re proud of your taste in music and love busting out the sprinkler in your dance moves!

8. You’re always trying to make and give food to people.

You love being in the kitchen and when you have company over, it is not an option for them to not try your famous potatoes. There is always a drink in their hand and food in front of them. If they still say they are not hungry, you still force feed them anyway.

9. You’re always the one to take care of people.

Whether it is with a paper, a boy, at a party or with a new recipe you are always the first to take charge because helping people is what you do best. You always want to make sure that your friends and family are happy because if they aren’t happy then you aren’t. You also offer them milk and cookies because your 60-year-old future self-said too.

10. Your friends always ask you to go out, but you always give them the same answer that you’re going to stay in.

Going out is fun maybe every once in awhile, but having a good night to you does not consist of being at a party. All you want to do at the end of your day is have tea beside you with a book in your hand and your pet in your lap. That is the ideal night you dream for.

11. You get cold really easily.

You’re that one person that your friends make sure to ask if you have a sweater with you before you go out. It seems even if it is 70 degrees out you still will feel the need to put on a light sweater. No matter what time of the year is, you know that having a sweater with you is a necessity in your checklist for the day.

12. You always question the length of people’s outfits or why they are wearing a dress out when it is 60 degrees because it upsets you.

You don’t want people to feel too cold or not appropriate so you always wonder why they chose that type of attire to wear. All you want to do is give them your sweater because you would rather be cold than them.

13. Brunch with your friends is your favorite social event.

You wish you could already be retired so that you could go to brunch and afternoon tea with your girlfriends any day of the week that you want. You look forward to those types of days because it requires food and gossip.

14. You find every excuse in the book to not go out.

You say that your friend just got out of a bad relationship so you need to comfort them when really your cousins friend’s friend just got dumped, but I mean, it is OK to say your friend right? You will do absolutely anything to get out of going out on the town because the only town your going to is San Francisco so that you can watch reruns of "Full House."

15. Your favorite types of shows are ones that involve cooking and house decorating.

The Food Network and HGTV are the only shows that you watch. You have your notepad out ready and to add a new recipe to your book and are mad when the couple on HGTV did not choose the house that you thought was quaint.

16. Whenever you go out and there is music playing it always seems to be too loud.

Whether you’re at your friends place or out with friends either the TV or music is always too loud. Even though you know it is at a good volume for people your inner 60-year-old self is telling you to put in some earplugs.

17. When people ask you for advice you give an answer like you have already lived through your entire life.

You often catch yourself saying, “Well back in the day,” when really those “days” were four years ago. You feel as though when you speak you have lived through so much that you could practically write a book by now that would pay for your early retirement.

18. Technology is not your friend.

For some reason, your friends always seem to be more tech savvy than you. You can’t help that you have no idea how to make a spreadsheet and whenever you try something always seems to go wrong.

19. All you want is to live life without a care in the world.

You always think about how being retired will be the “good life." When you are retired you know you will finally be able to live your dream of being a happy, care free old lady.

20. You can’t help, but be clumsy.

Whenever you walk outside of your house you know that it is inevitable that you are going to trip over something. You don’t know when and you don’t know where, but you know to keep a first aid kit in your purse next to your sewing kit for when that time comes.

21. You always love when people give you hand made gifts or a handwritten letter.

The simple things in life please you, but when people take time out of their day to make you something it makes you feel special. You can’t help, but love a letter that was handwritten because you wish that you lived in the decade where writing and making hand made gifts were "the norm."

When it comes to television, there’s very few sets of on-screen siblings that a lot of us can relate to. Only those who have grown up with siblings knows what it feels like to fight, prank, and love a sibling. Ross and Monica Geller were definitely overbearing and overshared some things through the series of "Friends," but they captured perfectly what real siblings feel in real life.
