21 Signs Your Mom Is Your Best Friend

If you're lucky, you were best friends with your mom growing up. She would sing to you, help you with homework, teach you life lessons. But most of all, she made you feel loved. I was lucky growing up. My mom and dad both worked full-time when I was younger and always have, but that never stopped them from giving me the best childhood ever!

Now, I'm not trying to diss on all the dad's out there - because I'm a daddy's girl and love him to death - but when you have that partner-in-crime friendship with your mom, what else could be better?!

Here are 21 signs that you and your mom are best friends:

1. When something exciting happens… you call her first!

2. When something bad happens… you call her first!

3. You confide in her and tell her everything because you know you can trust her.

4. When your friends come over, they tell her all their problems.

5. SHOPPING BUDDY! You and your mom both love to shop, and when you go to the mall, you shop for each other because you have similar tastes. Let's just say that dad isn't real happy when he sees how many bags you have in your hand when you get home!

6. You can make one facial expression and she instantly knows what you're thinking!

7. You have her pegged! When she's trying to be serious or mad, you can pretty much predict the exact moment she's going to burst into the lecture. She gets even more upset when you predict it mid-fight *insert evil grin here* then ends up laughing herself.

8. You know all about her past from her life stories… and you can't resist making fun of her publicly from time to time!

9. You and your mom go from 0 to 100 real quickly… but, just as quickly, you get over your arguments with each other! Let's be honest, most dads aren’t going to talk “girl-talk” so you don’t stay mad at mom for long.

10. There are times you have a girl’s night with mom instead of going out with friends because you know how much she loves it! But then again…you love it, too.

11. When you need help, she goes above and beyond to give you the support you need and gives the best advice on how to cope with your issues.

12. You have years of inside jokes - sometimes inappropriate - and then there are the oh-so-common stomach cramps you both get from laughing hysterically. Once you two start laughing, there's no stopping you!

13. Not only is she your best support system, but she is also your biggest fan and bodyguard, all wrapped into one.

14. Your mom calls you on your crap and makes you accountable. Tough love, right?

15. Mom worries about you like crazy, but you tolerate it because you know she has your best interest at heart!

16.She always needs to get her two cents in.

17. Your mom knows more about your health than you do. She calls the doctor and he does whatever she says… always!

18. You have a constant travel buddy and she doesn't judge you when you get hangry.

19. When you look at your phone call history, she takes up more than 75% of the list.

20. If you go a day without talking to your mom, you feel like something is missing.

21. You find that you are just like her in a lot of ways… and you wouldn't have it any other way!

My mom is the bomb. Now, that doesn't mean that we don't argue or she doesn’t drive me crazy sometimes. But she loves me unconditionally and always has my back. And that's what is most important.

Let your mom know that you love her today! Share this with her and make her feel special. She will love you for reminding her how much you love and appreciate her.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
