If you're a Millennial like me, then you spent a great deal of your childhood glued to the television watching Nickelodeon. From "Avatar" to "Cat Dog," this channel was filled with diverse and hilarious shows that any 8-year-old could love. Currently, when you turn on Nickelodeon, it's full of bad acting and cliche scripts. What happened to the good old days of the boy genius with the crazy hair? Or the crew of surfer kids who rocked the waves? Nickelodeon, we liked you so much better in the 2000's. Here's a list (in no particular order) of shows that need to come back into our lives.
1. "The Wild Thornberrys"
Who hasn't wished at least once that they could communicate with animals? From traveling the world to hanging with her chimpanzee companion, Darwin, Eliza lives the life we all desired, minus the near-death experiences.
2. "Danny Phantom"
"Danny Phantom" is what happens when you have to juggle saving the world, your ghost hunting parents, and your big crush on the Goth girl all in the same week. Classic high school stuff.
3. "Hey Arnold!"
"Hey Arnold!" is a fan favorite for it's fantastic character development and serious themes within the show. However, this didn't stop me from thinking Arnold was wearing a skirt the entire time it was on TV.
4. "Kenan and Kel"
I guarantee there is not a single '90s kid who doesn't know who this dynamic duo is. I suggest checking out the movie "Good Burger" to fulfill your "Kenan and Kel" withdraw.
5. "My Life as a Teenage Robot"
Do you ever feel like your mom just doesn't get you? Ever feel like an outsider? Well at least you aren't made of metal and have rockets coming out of your feet.
6. "The Angry Beavers"
If you've ever wondered what beavers do in their free time, then this show is for you. "Angry Beavers" follows the adventures of two brother beavers having a dam good time!
7. "Cat Dog"
"Cat Dog" solves the classic dogs vs. cats debate by incorporating the best of both worlds. I'm still wondering how they went to the bathroom, though.
8. "The Amanda Show"
Pre Amanda Bynes freak out, "The Amanda Show" dominated Nickelodeon television. From hillbilly moments to the dancing lobsters, Amanda keeps you laughing through the whole program!
9. "Pinky and the Brain"
Though not originally a Nickelodeon show, "Pinky and the Brain" joined the channel and quickly became a favorite due to the characters' sincere longing for world domination and their crazy antics.
10. "ChalkZone"
Magic chalk that can bring anything you draw to life. Who wouldn't want that? "ChalkZone" issues a creative story line while providing exciting episodes.
11. "Doug"
"Doug" has a special place in all of our hearts, for it applies real life situations everyone experiences throughout childhood. Doug is a lovable character who teaches us a moral lesson every time he's on TV.
12. "Legend of the Hidden Temple"
Still by far the best game show to ever be on television. Though the talking head secretly freaks me out, every '90s kid long awaited the day they would be chosen to play on "The Legend of the Hidden Temple."
13. "As Told by Ginger"
"As Told By Ginger" is relatable for every awkward middle school girl there ever was. Don't worry Ginger, it was rough for us too.
14. "All That"
Basically "Saturday Night Live" made for tweens, "All That" incorporates famous Nickelodeon kid actors with crazy comedy sketches to create a fabulous collaboration.
15. "Invader Zim"
An evil alien with anger problems who continually tries to enslave the human race, "Invader Zim" was only on air for a short time, yet created a large following.
16. "Rugrats"
"Rugrats" gives us an inside look into the lives and thoughts of babies. Though Nickelodeon tried to bring this series back with "All Grown Up," the original show will always be the best.
17. "The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron"
A boy too smart for his own good, Jimmy Neutron constantly is trying to save his town from the aftermath of his own insane experiments. Along with his hilarious sidekicks, Carl and Sheen, this show is one for the books.
18. "Fairly Oddparents"
With neglectful parents, an evil babysitter and a professor out to get him, Timmy Turner's life is quite unfortunate. Thankfully, he has his fairy godparents to change that around!
19. "Avatar: The Last Airbender"
"Avatar" follows Aang and his friends while they attempt to put an end to the Fire Lord's reign over the nations. Action packed with some comedy as well, Nickelodeon uses Asian culture and sincere character development to make this show a hit.
20. "Rocket Power"
The kids of "Rocket Power" are definitely the coolest people on television. From the skate park to surfing the waves, the Rocket Power gang kick butt and always have each others back.
21. "Drake and Josh"
These boobs are the funniest guys on Nickelodeon by far. Original members of "All That" and "The Amanda Show," Drake Bell and Josh Peck come together to form a truly legendary program.
So thank you Nickelodeon. Though your television show choice nowadays is questionable, we still owe you for blessing us with the greatest childhood ever.
