21 Life Lessons I Learned From Lorelai Gilmore
klear

Many of us grew up right along side the Gilmore Girls. We Saw Rory graduate Chilton. We screamed when when she got her acceptance letter to Yale. We met Logan and either loved or hated him instantly. We watched Richard grow closer to his granddaughter, and we realized that Emily wasn't actually Satan.. well. We cried when we found out Lane was pregnant and cried harder when Rory said goodbye to the town that built her. When looking back to my own Stars Hollow memories, I find myself thinking of the ever present lessons I learned from Lorelai. Lorelai Gilmore is, in my humble opinion, one of the most well developed characters in any TV series. She is strong, she is brave, she is free. She maintains all of these traits while being a single teen mother, successfully running a business, and raising the kind of daughter we all wish we could one day have. In tribute to this wonderful woman, actress, and character and the impending revival of the show here are 21 things we all learned from Lorelai Gilmore.

1. Coffee is Vital to Life.

2. Sometimes you should take a chance on the bad boy.

(especially if he likes books)

But on the contrary.....

3. Just because someone is cute, does not mean you should always date them.

4. Sleeping in is a form of art.

5. Junk food is always an acceptable food group.

6. Break ups REALLY suck.

7. The ability to talk yourself out of any situation is immensely valuable.

8. Sometimes you have to first lose yourself to truly find yourself.

.

9. The bad times always come, but something better is always right behind them.

10. No one will ever love you like your mom does.

11. Rebellion is sweet and sometimes tastes like Pop-Tarts.

12. Avoiding your problems is the adult thing to do.... sometimes.

13. Any family time is quality family time.

14. We all disappoint people, and that's okay.

15. It is not only okay to celebrate No Panty Friday, it is encouraged.

(especially on laundry day)

16. Being a little crazy keeps life interesting.

(or a lot)

17. Sometimes alcohol is a necessary coping mechanism.

18. There is always time to clean later.

19. We all just need somebody to love.

(*cough cough* Luke Danes)

20. Women are powerful and sometimes scary.

21. But even the strongest women fall apart every once in a while.

Last but not least a little lesson from our Rory:

22. There is no such thing as loving your mother too much.

“Girl power in my mind is to let girls be exactly what they are. Let them be angry. Let them be resentful. And rebellious. Let them be hard and soft and loving and sad and silly. Let them be wrong. Let them be right. Let them be everything, because they are everything.”
― Amy Sherman- Palladino, Creator of Gilmore Girls

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
