As another year passes, it gets me thinking about everything I've done in my lifetime thus far. It feels like just yesterday that I was starting my first year of high school and now I'm preparing to graduate college. When I look back, I think about all the people I've met, the things that I've done, the memories I've made, and the lessons I've learned. It hasn't always been easy, but it's been quite the ride. Here are 21 things I've learn in 21 years:
- There will be plenty of bad days, but there will always better days. Whatever it is, it will get better.
- Don't bother with internet drama—you'll either regret it or look stupid.
- Always buy an abundance of toilet paper.
- There's no place like home.
- Put down technology and enjoy the world.
- It's okay to be sad. Eat your ice cream, lay in your bed, watch your Netflix—you do you.
- If you want it, go for it. You're going to regret what you didn't do.
- Be nice to everyone you meet, for everyone is fighting their own battles.
- Treat yourself—set aside "Me Time."
- Listen to your orthodontist.
- Love yourself.
- Never put your happiness in someone else's hands.
- Respect your parents. They love you.
- Little actions go a long way.
- Coupons also go a long way.
- "You will find that it is necessary to let things go; simply for the reason that they are heavy."—Know when it's time to let go.
- It's okay to not know what you want.
- Be spontaneous—take advantage of being young!
- Put extra effort into your relationships (family, friends, love, etc.). It's always nice to be appreciated—let them know you care.
- Take care of your body—it's yours forever.
- 21 years goes by faster than you think.
