1. Golden Skillet has the best friend chicken.

2. A corner store literally on every corner.

3. A church literally on ever corner.

4. Churchland is upidity and downtown is ratchet.

5. I.C Norcom High School when it was known as the High Street School (the first high school for black students).

6. Keisha and Quay are hair stylists.

7. The old Highland Biltmore Elementary School before it became Victory Elementary School.

8. Rainbows in Victory Crossing has the cheapest clothes.

9. High School graduation is at the nTelos Pavilion.

10. Moseberth's is still open.

11. The ferry from downtown Portsmouth to downtown Norfolk is cheaper than the tunnel toll.

12. The crime rate is one of the highest in the area.

13. Everybody goes to church on Easter and Christmas.

14. Frozen Custard has the best ice-cream.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated.
