I believe one of the first steps in truly getting to know someone is delving into their mind and seeing what they find intriguing. One excellent way to do this is reading some of their favorite books. So, in order to share a bit more of myself with the world, here is a list of books I have read within the last couple of years that I highly enjoyed:

1. This Star Won't Go Out by Esther Earl

A memoir by a girl dying of cancer.

2. Archetype by M.D. Waters

A thrilling, thought-provoking adventure in a woman's life that is split between two bodies.

3. The Good Luck of Right Now by Matthew Quick

A story of adjusting with death told through letters to Richard Gere. Yes, that Richard Gere.

4. The Help by Kathryn Stockett

We all know it, now it's time to actually go read it. I couldn't put it down!

5. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green (get ready for a lot of him)

John Green is a genius when it comes to a peak in this teen novel. Don't knock it till you try it. A love story between two teens suffering from cancer.

6. Paper Towns by John Green

A girl gone missing, a boy on a journey to find her.

7. An Abundance of Katherines by John Green

When every Katherine in your past has broken your heart, you'd think you'd learn a thing or two from it.

8. Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green (I wasn't kidding)

Two teenagers' stories intertwine through a boy called Tiny. Oh, and they have the same name.

9. Looking for Alaska by John Green

This was my first experience with John Green and obviously I was floored.

10. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

A classic. I recommend listening to the movies' soundtrack while reading this action-packed adventure.

11. Let It Snow by John Green (nope, I wasn't done with him), Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Miracle

Three stories, three authors, all interconnected by the season of winter.

12. It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini

Mental illness is a common topic of late, and this book takes a teenager's point of view on depression.

13. Seriously...I'm Kidding by Ellen Degeneres

You gotta love her. Every bit of humor from her show is packed in this book. Hilarious.

14. The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick

The movies gave a great look into mental illness, but this book delves even further into anger management issues, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, and so much more.

15. Lexicon by Max Barry

What if there was a word that gave you complete control over any other human when they heard it?

16. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews

Another cancer story, but told unlike any other.

17. A Work in Progress by Connor Franta

Connor Franta, popular Youtube star, writes about his experiences growing up into fame.

18. You Don't Know Me by David Klass

A troubled, introverted teen takes you through his story of abuse.

19. Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes

Infinite wisdom isn't all it's cracked up to be.

20. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

If you don't know what this book is about, don't talk to me. Just go read it. K Thnx Bye.

21. The Giver by Lois Lowry

I first read this in the fifth grade, and I've never had a more powerful existential crisis in my life.

Have you read any of these books? If not, what are some of your favorite books? Please let me know in the comments!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
