21 Things To Do Instead Of Going To The Bar

Sometimes, you just don't wanna be in the club turning up on a Tuesday.

Going to the bar might not be everyone's go-to activity in college. In fact, the bar is one of the most boring places to hangout for me. So what do you do when T-shirt Tuesday comes around, or when all of your friends decide they want to spend their Thursday and Saturday nights out? Not all nights spent at home have to be boring. Whether you want to spend the night alone or rally a few friends up to hangout, here are a few ideas for what you can do instead of go to the bar:

1. Game night

Nothing beats a glass of wine and a game of UNO with your best friends.

2. Netflix & chill

And by chill... I mean chillin'.

3. Go to the hot tub

The best way to relax at the end of a long day.

4. Girls night in

Who needs the bar to have a fun girls night? Snacks and movies with my greatest girl friends sounds perfect.

5. DD friends at the bar

So you may not want to go out but your friends still do, so be a good friend and make sure your friends stay safe.

6. Go home and see your family

If you are done with classes for the week, make a trip home instead of going out all weekend. Your family misses you.

7. Disney movie marathon

These three words are the key to my heart.

8. Spa night

Make the night all about you. Take a bubble bath and treat yo'self.

9. Stargaze

See how many constellations you can find.

10. Try Pinterest recipes

...and most-likely fail, but who really cares anyways?

11. Craft

Best friend gets a craft. Boyfriend gets a craft. Little gets a craft.

12. Adult coloring books

If you experience anxiety or are easily stressed, buy an adult coloring book and spend your night coloring. You will see how much your anxiety levels decrease.

13. Study

I know you don't want to, but odds are you probably have to.

14. Workout

Most gyms are usually open until midnight and there are usually less people working out later at night, so take advantage of that!

15. Clean out your closet/Organize your room

If your room is together, your life is *hopefully* together.

16. Buzzfeed quizzes

Seriously, I have spent more hours than I'm willing to admit taking quizzes on Buzzfeed.

17. Go to the movies

Most college theaters sell movie tickets to college students for as little as $3.

18. Yoga

It's not for everyone, but if you haven't tried it yet, do yoga. It is good for your body, mind, and soul.

19. Read a book

Put your phone down and pick a book up. My favorite is "Eleanor & Park" by Rainbow Rowell.

20. Plan your future wedding

We are all guilty of doing this, don't lie. Thank you, Pinterest.

21. Sleep

Because no college student gets to do that ever.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

1. People assume you are mad all of the time.

2. Ten out of ten times you will give off an intimidating impression to others.

3. People do not acknowledge your feelings because you "do not have any."

4. Constantly being exhausted from trying to smile and not look like a witch.

5. And on the rare occasion your facial expressions show how happy you are, your friends think you are going crazy.

6. Each of your friends has said "I thought you were so mean when I first met you" at some point.

7. Then they follow that by saying "you are just hard to read."

8. So naturally if people do not know you they just assume you are a snob.

9. And when you are actually mad, your facial expressions are horrifying.

10. In the end you always look like you are judging people, when in reality people are ALWAYS judging you.
