The 2050 Issue

In This Article:

If you are in agriculture, or have taken an ag class recently. You have probably heard of the year 2050 and the impacts that subject has over the industry. The general idea behind this is a goal for the ag industry to reach before we are outnumbered. To be able to supply for this type of population, there are several things that need to change. No, I don't have a fix all solution, but I do have suggestions for our industry. At this point suggestions need to become more, and solutions need to be found.

What is 2050?

2050 is the year that our world populations should, ideally, be around or above 9 million. This is significant because our industry is trying to find solutions to feel everyone. A job that isn't being fulfilled currently. Many solutions include increasing efficiency, and better practices. I will explain more in the following sections.

Is there a solution?

In short, not really. There is not a one change and fix this hypothetical problem. There needs to be a couple of changes that need to happen, both on the production and consumer side. Efficiency is something that is always in the minds of people who work with ag. But I feel like there should be more efficency within the processing and consumer portions. We throw away a lot of our food, just because it's not the reddest apple in the bunch. There are ways to break through to people about it being ok to keep food and try not to waste them. It is something that we as a society need to work on.

Production solutions

Efficiency is being repeated because it is so important. We are trying to fin new ways to grow crops, re use "waste", and raise livestock in the best way possible. This is very important for the Americans because we feed one third of the world, either through direct products or feed products. Someone needs to take the lead in this race to provide, and become more involved with world wide producers to be able to accomplish this large gap. To be able to supply we need to be able to work together, and be able to get enough food out in the market for everyone.

Overall, there are many hypothetical solutions to this issue. While efficiency is something that we strive for everyday, To be able to accomplish what we need to, we need too find creative solutions. Maybe even urban farming. An article that will be coming up in the month or so.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
