As we head into the final month of fall, it's time to start thinking about the holiday season and winter, especially since winter clothing will soon hit the stores. Here are some trends to be excited about and incorporate into your wardrobe for this winter season!

1. Loungewear Sets

Matching loungewear sets are both comfy and versatile. They can be worn casually with your favorite sneakers or boots while running errands or at home with a cozy pair of socks. Loungewear sets are currently trending on Amazon and have been recently featured on the Instagram pages of top retailers like Old Navy and Target. These will definitely serve as a great staple for your winter wardrobe.

2. Small Hoops and Chain Necklaces

This timeless accessory combination can take your most basic outfit to the next level. Hoop earrings and chain necklaces come in a variety of metals – gold, silver, rose gold – and sizes. Depending on which styles you go for, hoops and chain necklaces can be combined to create either a statement look that's bold, or a subtle look that is still trendy. Small chunky hoop earrings and gold chain necklaces are currently trending. They have been featured both together and separately on the Instagrams of Macy's, Nordstrom and H&M.

3. Sherpa Coats

Winter style is about combining style and comfort, which sherpa coats do perfectly. Sherpa is a soft fleece that resembles the look of sheep's wool. It provides warmth and adds texture to any winter outfit. Sherpa coats vary in length, and you can either buy short ones that stop at the waist or ones longer in length. Sherpa material is also used as liner for other kinds of coats and jackets, including denim. It's definitely a winter essential!

4. Belt Bags

Belt bags, also known as fanny packs, are the perfect balance between style and functionality. They can either be worn around the waist as a belt or slung over the shoulder. For the winter time, they can be worn around your favorite coat as well!

5. Neutral Colors

Neutral colored clothing and accessories are another timeless trend. They can be worn with anything such as denim, animal prints, such as leopard and snake print, or statement looks with bright colors. There are a variety of neutral shades including sand, camel, buff, cream, ivory and beige. Currently, monochrome outfits that mix and match these different shades are trending. Neutrals are a staple for every season, so they are perfect for winter!

6. Double Circle Belts

Double circle belts are a cheap, yet stylish, alternative to the popular Gucci Belt. These stylish belts add a luxe twist to any simple outfit.

7. V-Neck Sweaters

V-Neck sweaters with a slouchy look are another stylish must-have for your winter closet. Some trendy ways to wear them are with jeans and knee-high boots or midi-length skirts and ankle boots. V-Neck sweaters can also provide an off-the-shoulder look. Want to be even more casual and cozy? Throw on your favorite pair of comfy sweats with a V-Neck sweater!

8. Mini Backpacks

Like belt bags, mini backpacks are both stylish and practical. They provide the perfect amount of space to carry around your essentials, especially if you don't want to tote a big bag around in the snow. In addition to being worn on your back like a traditional backpack, these can also be worn over your shoulder or carried by the strap like a purse.

9. Puffer Jackets

These oversized, padded coats are both stylish and functional in their design. They are filled with either down or synthetic insulation that provide warmth while maintaining a lightweight feel. Puffer jackets are another trending coat style to add to your winter closet.

10. Tie-Dye

Who would've thought that tie-dye would be a winter trend? When you think of winter fashion, you think of warm and cozy shades like creamy white, gray, dark red and camel. Tie-dye has always been traditionally associated with summer and the nostalgia of our childhood. But now, it has become one of the biggest trends of 2020.

Since March, interest in "tie dye loungewear" has significantly increased. Tie-dye has been a popular trend for the fall and will make its way into winter. Currently, tie-dye loungewear and activewear are popular at retailers like Amazon, Target and Old Navy. You can either embrace the traditional bright colors tie dye or opt for more subtle shades of grey and white.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
