2019 Better Be As Great As 2016

Do you remember how great 2016 was? If not, let me remind you.

2019 Better Be As Great As 2016

As 2018 comes to an end, everyone naturally reflects on the year they’ve have. As I did this, I realized even though I had a pretty good year, the year for the world wasn’t all that great.

And as we go into 2019, we start to come up with our wishes for this year. A lot of people have mentioned how great the year 2016 was, and I have to agree. Here’s all the reasons why 2016 was one of the best years of my life.

First of all, Pokemon Go was the whole rage during the summer of 2016. I remember running around my home town with all my friends trying to find the best pokemon while the game drains our phone battery.

Who could forget Beyonce’s performance at the Super Bowl Halftime show? When she sang Formation and did that dance, I nearly lost my breath.

And this was our last year with one of my personal favorite presidents, Barack Obama. He was the first African American president ever in American history and we still remember him being our president from him being so graceful, kind, and also very funny. While we look on the tirade that’s going on in politics today, we really do miss when Obama was president.

Songs like One Dance by Drake, Work by Rihanna, I Took A Pill In Ibiza by Seeb and Mike Posner, Cheap Thrills by Sia, and Closer by The Chainsmokers and Halsey were playing every day on the radio and as much as we might have hated it, we know how much we would love for the radio to go back to those songs.

Movies like Moana, Moonlight, La La Land, Suicide Squad, Zootopia, The Secret Life of Pets, Don’t Breathe, Sing, and many others came out during this year and we will always remember how much we couldn’t stop talking about these movies.

The most memorable pop culture moments of this year- such as Beyonce releasing Lemonade, the infamous Taylor Swift vs. Kim and Kanye fight, Leonardio Decaprio winning an Oscar, and even Netflix reviving Full House and Gilmore Girls- had us all on the edge of our seats to see what would happen next in the strange place we call Hollywood.

Even for sports, we remeber a lot about 2016. This year, the Cubs won the World Series, the Broncos won the Super Bowl, and the Penguins won the Stanely Cup. This was a great year for sports, and we would only have to wait two more years for the Eagles to win the Super Bowl (go Birds!).

For me, I was a Sophomore/ Junior in high school during 2016 and if you look back on your high school experience, you’ll know your Sophomore year was the last year that you didn’t have to worry much about school, because once you got to your Junior year, everything was a whole lot harder.

On Twitter in 2018, everyone has been realizing that 2016 may have been the best year of their lives. I asked my friends how they felt, and they also think that 2016 was one of the top years of their life. So, even though 2019 is coming and 2016 has long past, we still have the potential to make 2019 the new best year of our lives.

This year, try to switch up the way you live your life in a good way. Everyone has room for improvement, but there’s so many was to improve yourself even further. Try reading more, meditate, talk to your family more, anything that could enhance the way you live your life for the better. Maybe, that’ll make 2019 as good as 2016 for you personally.

So, no matter what you plan on doing this year, have fun and make it the most memorable year to date, because even though we won’t ever get to relive 2016, we can try to make 2019 the best we can.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
