2017 Will Change Everything We Know

With the new year comes a big change, and it's going to shift everything in our lives.

To those who say 2017 won’t change anything: You’re wrong.

2017 will change everything – whether it be for better or for worse – and I don’t think that the world is ready for what’s to come.

On January 20th of this coming year, we will see ourselves under the leadership of a new president. Businessman, Donald Trump.

The businessman who wants to limit a woman’s reproductive rights. The businessman who condones violence. The businessman who brags about assaulting woman. And the businessman who is also racist, bigoted, egotistical, and altogether a bully towards everyone around him.

In 2017, we are going to be under the leadership of a man who has driven millions of people to tears because they are afraid for their lives and the lives of their loved ones.

If you believe that the induction of this unqualified man isn’t going to change anything, you’re sadly mistaken, and I’ll tell you why.

“The United States must greatly strengthen and expand its nuclear capability until such time as the world comes to the sense regarding nukes” (Donald Trump tweeted this out on December 22nd, 2016).

I’m sorry, the last time I checked, we have a large enough supply of nuclear weapons to take out the entire world more than once. So, explain to me, Donald – or anyone who somehow supports him – why we need to make our nuclear presence even bigger than it already is.

I repeat, we have a large enough supply of nuclear weapons to take out the ENTIRE WORLD more than once.

Are you all really that power hungry? Or do you just like to see things explode?

If dear old Donald has his way, we’ll be launched into a nuclear war, something that could cause mass chaos and destruction throughout the world.

No matter how liberal or conservative your views are, no one wishes to see their loved ones die in a nuclear war that was easily avoidable.

No one.

With Trump’s inauguration also comes his hopes to take away a woman’s reproductive rights. In an interview with CBN News, Trump explained why his views changed from Pro-Choice to Pro-Life.

His story revolves around one of his friends. This friend’s wife was pregnant with a baby, and at first, the friend was against having kids; he didn’t want the baby. But after his baby was born, he claimed the child was the apple of his eye, that it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to him.

This happens with parents, this is nothing negative, because parenting is a nerve-wracking and scary thing, and for some people, it takes seeing their daughter or son for all of it to sink in.

But Trump used this story as his excuse for being Pro-Life.

I can understand why his views changed. I can see how a story like that would change a person’s views, but let me show a counter argument.

And trust me, it’s a fairly simple one.

Donald Trump is NOT a woman. He will never have his reproductive rights diminished or limited, because he is not the one carrying the child.

I open my arms to anyone who wishes to tell me why a man has any say in what a woman does with her body. Because, as far as I’m concerned, the only people who can tell us what to do with our own bodies, is us.

I’m not going to make this argument long, I’m not going to bore all of you to death with an article that’s driven towards such a hard-pressed and overly shared topic.

But the thing is, I’ve been quiet on this issue for long enough.

Hearing people say that 2017 isn’t going to change anything, set me off.

Heads up, things are going to change. Lives are going to be lost, families are going to be torn apart, rights are going to be taken away, and hope will vanish into the fear that comes with the new year.

For once I’m not excited to face the new year, and if you say nothing is going to change . . .

You’re wrong.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
