To The Class of 2017

Being a high school senior is one of the most exciting things in your life. There's so much happening and you're so ready to start your new life somewhere else.

Slow down.

Take in the things that are going on around you.

All of the things that you know are about to change. You're about to move away from the only thing and people that you've ever known. I know that right now it seems like the day that you move out will never come, and that time is so slow, but I can assure you that you're going to miss it.

You're going to miss the home cooked meals from your parents, and sitting with them in the living room while they ask how your day is going and help you study for your next test. Don't get aggravated with them and don't yell at them. They're trying to pretend that you're not leaving in 4 months. It's hard on them. Don't make it harder.

Hang out with your friends as much as possible. When you're at college the first weekend and you're sitting in a bedroom with a stranger that is now your roommate and you have no friends, you're going to wish so bad that you could call someone and go drive around or go eat with them. Yes, you're going to make new friends and you're going to love them just as much. Try to stay in tough with your best friends as best as you can, but there will be times when you go a few days without talking to them. Don't worry, they'll still be there for you.

You're not going to have the close relationship with all your teachers like you did in high school. Some professors you will have a close relationship with, but it's not the same as it was in high school.

Take advantage of the high school hallway. This is one of the last times that you're going to know EVERYONE that you pass in the hallway. It doesn't seem like something that significant, but I promise you that when you're walking down the hall of whatever college you choose, it's something that you're going to notice.

College is one of the best and most fun times of your life. But there will be a piece of you that misses the little things about high school. Don't forget to step back and take it all in before it's over.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
