Before we know it, 2017 will be here and we will be constantly scratching out the "2016" we mistakenly write with the date for the next few weeks.
We have reached the end of the year, and whether or not 2016 has been your year, there will always be talk about plans for the new year. Some may choose to dedicate more of their time in 2017 to health and fitness, while some may choose to be more risk-taking.
I remember in middle school especially, as soon as we got back from Winter break, my teachers would make us write down our New Year's resolution. I grew to dread the tradition, not only because every subject teacher made us do it, but because year after year, resolutions seemed liked BS to me. So here I am, calling BS on every New Year's resolution the world may have.
Here is the cycle of almost every resolution:
You think of something you want to be better about --- you choose to make it a goal for the following year --- that said year arrives --- you strive towards your goal --- a few weeks in you figure it'd be best to save it for the following year...
Why is it that we have a hard time sticking to our resolutions? The new year will not bring motivation, it comes from within. You have the ability to do whatever it is you want—anytime you want, so why wait for the new year to get started? In the moment it may feel exhilarating to start the new year with a few goals in mind, and there is nothing wrong with setting goals for yourself—but why only set them for the new year? There is no reason to make an excuse. Your goal is not as far a reach as you think.
