2017 Inauguration: My POV

My take on America's reaction to the 2017 Inauguration.

2017 Inauguration: My POV

On January 20th, 2017, America inaugurated its new POTUS, Donald J. Trump, and people across the country are throwing temper tantrums. It amazes me how fast the left-side went from people of peace and acceptance to refusing to accept the new President. What they don’t seem to understand is that that’s how democracy works. You win some, you lose some (and you don’t get a trophy when you lose). For the last eight years, America has been under the leadership of a democrat, and now we want a republican. Just because liberals didn’t get what they wanted, does not give them the right to throw a fit and scream “not my president”. Like it or not honey, yes, he is your President.

The main group of people against Trump’s election are women. There are protests scheduled across the country during and following the Inauguration (*cough* Women’s March). They claim that he is a woman, immigrant and race hater. But do they know that his daughter, Ivanka, is one of the most successful business women in America, running her own industry? And that his wife, Melania, is an IMMIGRANT? The First Lady of the United States is an immigrant; I think that is a win for minorities. I guess my main point is that people need to give Trump a chance before they start threatening to move to another country. We all need to help the President be the best, because remember, if the President fails, then America fails too.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
