We all know who Tomi Lahren is, and if you don’t, just look up one of her many viral videos on Facebook. She is a very angry 24-year-old Midwesterner from South Dakota who has a lot of things to say. Her job is to basically shout at a camera that her first amendment right allows her to condemn other peoples' practices of the first amendment. It’s no secret that she stirs up a lot of different reactions from people. A number of people love her, a lot of people despise her. Where did she come from? How did she rise to the top so fast? Is she a trustworthy news source? I am going to attempt to answer these questions and more.

Tomi Lahren is from Rapid City, South Dakota. She graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2014 and immediately applied at One America News Network. She was offered an opportunity to host her own show. Two years later, and she is the host of her own show, Final Thoughts with Tomi.

Final Thoughts with Tomi is not a news source.

I repeat - Final Thoughts with Tomi is not a news source.

Tomi Lahren is a political commentator for The Blaze. She is not a professional reporter, or journalist. She is a political commentator. A commentator simply discusses the topics that they are hired to talk about. In this case, it happens to be a very conservative platform. Therefore, she can say anything; true or not true. Although, she mostly talks about her opinions on issues.

People from all different kinds of political backgrounds watch her videos. Conservatives watch and praise her for her “outspoken nature” and for the way she just “tells it like it is.” Liberal folks watch her videos in sheer disgust or to poke fun at her extreme ideologies.

Personally, I have seen a lot of her videos, but since the election I can’t bring myself to watch a full video. In her Facebook header she has a quote from herself, “Whether you love what I’m saying or hate what I’m saying, you’re having a reaction to it, and that is exactly what needs to happen in this country.” When I first read this, it actually scared me. She’s right, a lot of people watch her videos and react to it from both sides all the time. She knows her audience is not only the far right but also people who don’t like her from the left. But to say that this is what our country needs right now is something I don’t agree with.

I don’t think our country needs more division. I don’t think our country needs to become more farther to the right. I think that Collin Kaepernik has the right to kneel during the National Anthem if he feels that this country is working against him and the black community. Our country needs to become more tolerable of people with all different views and ideologies. We need to listen to all sides of every story. Tomi has every single right to look at a camera and spew hate speech and be as angry as what seems to be humanly possible. But to say that what America needs is to become more divided is a lie. And to say she isn’t promoting a more divided nation is unrealistic. America doesn’t need her. She is actually exactly what America doesn’t need. She does not speak on behalf of a majority of the United States. She simply goes online after anyone protests and complains about how they are a bunch of “whiny babies.” Ironic, isn’t it?

What we need now more than ever is common ground. We need to come together and have thoughtful and constructive conversations. Instead of Tomi ranting for ten minutes about why she thinks the Black Lives Matter movement is the equivalent to the KKK, we should have people from all different ideologies come together and discuss what is happening, why its happening, and the possible solutions to solve problems or at least make them better.

The wonderful year of 2016 is coming to an end, which means a new year must begin. Let's move forward together as an America coming together. We shouldn't give Tomi Lahren this popularity power to give this intensely close-minded platform to the American people. The United States is better off without her and should rightfully leave her behind in the year of 2016. Lets make 2017 the year of rebuilding and constructing an America for everyone, and it must start with the media. Let’s start with one media star in particular.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
