2016: A Year For The Books

With the December coming to and end, the internet is going crazy over looking back at the year 2016, and spoiler alert: it's not good. Memes and articles have been popping up describing everything that went wrong this year, from pop culture to politics. The deaths of Muhammad Ali, and Prince, Brangelina's divorce and Trump's victory of the presidency, many are calling 2016 one of the worst years ever.

But the year comes to an end, I can't help but look back at the year 2016 and think it's been one of the best years so far. My year starts out with big changes, including changing my mind about my career path. Already I'm happier studying Communications and Journalism. Also with a new year comes new piercings. We're introduced to new music, and are gifted with the album Death of a Bachelor.

Then, us Leap Day Babies finally get a birthday, which I got to spend with Hoodie Allen. Spring continues and I meet my best friend. Then the year continues as any college life goes. Downtown with friends, and dates with older men.

Going to New York for spring break to watch the Creighton Bluejays in the Big East Conference, touring Odyssey headquarters office in New York City, and then going to the Berkshire Hathaway Shareholders meeting and conference. Then at the end of spring, I got to watch my sister graduate college.

Summer starts and I'm on the finest beach in the world. It's a reward of course because the rest of summer looks like work. Between the beaches and work, I make it to dozens of concerts. I got to see five Grammy nominated artist who are up for Grammy awards this year.

I got to meet my favorite bands including Fall Out Boy and AWOLNATION, and even got to interview Taking Back Sunday after having filmed one of their music videos.

After saving some money during summer, I headed off to Ireland to study and travel Europe for the rest of the year. I befriended many local Irish students who will all be off on their study abroad next semester all over the world.

I got to study and have fun in pubs and nightclubs meeting new people being immersed in a new culture. I have been able to travel to London, Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona, and many other European cities.

I made this year a great year by actively going out and turning my dreams into reality. Each year is what you make of it, so make every day count. I am glad to be ending the year traveling with my sister around Europe, and will be finishing off by celebrating the holidays with my friends and family upon returning home to the States. I hope to make 2017 as great as this year.

*If you have suffered from a terrible year in 2016, do yourself a favor, and treat yourself to see Rogue One. A new Star Wars movie is sure to lift up everyone's spirit and end the year on a good note.

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
