2016, Why Did You Have to Leave?

This year, 2016, has been a great year for me. I was expecting this year to be good, but not great. I have had awesome memories that I will cherish forever! Here are some things that has happened in my life this year.

1. I found my identity in Christ.

I thought I was saved for a while, but right at the end of 2015, I realized that I was never saved. That is when I gave my life to Christ. This year has been full of understanding God more, relying on Him, trusting in His plans, and being obedient to Him and His Word. It has been awesome to see God working in my life this past year and I can't wait to see what all He is going to do in my life in the future. Being the hands and feet of Jesus is worth it!

2. I learned how to cherish friendships.

I have met several of people when I started college and at church. I have met some awesome people this year that I will be friends with for the rest of my life! I do not know what I do without them in my life. I am so blessed to have them in my life! I have learned how to cherish my friends by just enjoying my time with them whenever we are talking together or hanging out together.

3. I went to Disney World a couple of times.

I was able to go to Disney World two different times. I went when I was on choir tour in Orlando with my church; we went on the last day when we were down there. The second time I went to Disney World, I went with the band from my high school that I was a member of. Our band was given the opportunity to march on Main Street in magic Kingdom while we were down there. That was a great experience!

4. I graduated from high school.

One of the biggest accomplishments I have done this past year was graduate high school! It was great to end a journey in my life that I have been looking forward to doing for a while! Yet, it was sad that I was leaving everything from high school; the teachers, most of my friends, and various things, but in the same way, I was so excited to take the next step in my life!

5. I started creating articles with Odyssey.

As I started blogging on my own, I discovered that God has given me the talent to write on my own about His Word and what He is doing in my life. I found out that Odyssey was looking for creators at Mississippi College, so I decided to give it a try and I have loved it ever since I started it! God has blessed me in so many ways by being a creator for Odyssey and I cannot wait to see what all He is going to do in the future with this!

6. I became a college student at MC.

I started attending Mississippi College for the Fall Semester in 2016. Starting college for the first time was intimidating, but after a couple of days of getting in a routine and getting used to college life, I was able to settle in! I have loved college so far! There are some things you are not going to like no matter where you attend college, but for the majority part, I love MC because it feels like home and I could not imagine anywhere else to be at!

7. I learned how to enjoy every moment in life.

I know this may sound different, but it is true! I found out how to enjoy every moment during the day! I realized that you never know what will happen in the future, so you just need to enjoy the time you have with your friends and family. I believe that God puts people in your life for a reason! Why not enjoy every moment you have when you do not know what the future will hold for you?

8. I realized that I need to say 'yes' to Jesus no matter what.

Saying 'yes' to Jesus with everything that happens is really hard to do. When you say 'yes' to Jesus, you are trusting Him with whatever you are saying 'yes' to; whether it is your whole life, a certain situation or a decision you need to make. I realized that you need to say 'yes' whenever God is leading you to do something. I was skeptical about a lot of things this past year when I thought about making a certain decisions, but I started taking leaps of faith, and look where God has put me and done in my life so far! I said 'yes' to writing, to Mississippi College, to co-leading a Bible Study on campus, to going on mission trips, and to various things! Are you willing to say 'yes' to the things God is wanting you to do for Him?

I hope 2016 was a great year for you as well! Instead of looking at all of the negatives from last year, I challenge you to look at all of the positives that has happened. Reflect and see what all God has done in your life. I pray that 2017 will be an awesome year that glorifies God with everything that you do!

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
