2016 Was Not That Bad

2016 wasn't that bad! Maybe a few hiccups, but come on, people, we need to think positive! Let's look back and reflect, shall we? We shall!

The year started off as any other year would have started off. Everyone went out or stayed in on December 31st and watched the ball drop, in Times Square, at midnight, watching "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve." Am I right or am I right? Of course we can't forget what everyone's New Years resolution was, "new year, new me." So original, never heard that one before. The new year, like always, started off with a bang!

The most tragic event that occurred this year, which tops ISIS and Trump becoming President, was the unfortunate, heartless, unwarranted death of the now-famous gorilla, Harambe. How can anybody shoot a cute, innocent gorilla? The kid shouldn't have been in there! Clearly, Harambe wasn't going to do any harm to the kid. They should have just left the situation play out before making the rash decision of shooting the poor gorilla. Harambe would have let the kid go, obviously. Am I right, because if everyone says that Harambe was just protecting the kid, he must have been. I seriously hope the kid was sued for causing the death of the now-famous gorilla, Harambe.

Starting off the year so tragically sucks, but at least it can't get much worse than the death of the now-famous gorilla, Harambe. ISIS threats, forget about them. Starving children, who cares, Harambe is dead! Donald Trump running for President? Did you hear me, Harambe is DEAD! England left Europe, no big deal. The death of legendary stars, it's OK, people die, that's life. Clowns trying to take over the world, things happen. See what I mean, nothing really phases Americans after going through something as tragic as a gorilla being shot.

Donald Trump was unfortunately elected President this year. That was pretty horrible, and quite honestly a bad call for Americans. My mom claimed that she couldn't live anymore and that him becoming President was the worst thing to ever happen to her. I told her to relax, he is only the new POTUS, but Harambe is DEAD and he will never come back! She had no idea who Harmabe was. Someone needs to check her priorities and it isn't me. Everyone knows who Harambe is... now.

The most important thing to remember going into the new year is don't sweat the small stuff. Obviously, that was the biggest problem in 2016. I mean, come on, people Harambe was unrightfully murdered, that is all that matters. Justice for Harambe! Also, new year means new things and nothing bad that happened in 2016 can happen in 2017, obviously. Everyone is so excited for this year to be over. I'm sure we all know that 2017 is going to be great. It will still take time for us to deal with the loss of Harbe, excuse me, Harambe. That is to be expected, though, it's hard to lose someone or something close to you and it takes time to heal. We were all close to Harmabe and I'm sure we all visited him in the Cincinnati Zoo as much as we could.

Cheers to the end of a not so bad 2016 and the beginning of a new year. Bring it on 2017, we're ready for you! Before January ends, make sure to say "new year, new me" at least once. I don't need to tell you that you probably will anyways.

Happy New Year all!

R.I.P. in peace Harmabae, you will never be forgotten.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
