It was a year filled with many WTFs.

I think we can all collectively agree 2016 will go down in history as one of the strangest years thus far. Was this year even real or was it all some sort of weird joke? Don't get me wrong, there have been good, bad, sad, and amazing moments this year...but most of all, there have been plenty of weird and WTF moments throughout 2016. Here's a nice recap of some interesting things that happened this year:

1. Clowns

Why? I really wish I knew the answer as to why people felt the need to dress up as clowns and terrify the world. Seriously, was there some sort of clown mafia throughout the world that decided 2016 was a good year to scare the shit out of everyone? Besides the strangeness of creepy clowns terrorizing the world, there was also a man dressed as batman attempting to take down the clowns. I wish I could say I'm making this up, but I'm not. Someone must have shined the bat signal because the dark knight came out to save the world from clowns.

2. Ted Cruz

The whole election was definitely one for the books, and I'm not sure it's in a good way. But, Ted Cruz really took the cake for one of the most awkward and slightly creepy candidates. I've never seen such an awkward man on television until Ted Cruz showed up on my screen. In case you forgot, check out some of his moments here and you'll immediately become uncomfortable. Also, did anyone ever confirm whether he really is the zodiac killer or not?

3. The Donald

Yes, I am talking about the man himself, Donald Trump. No one thought he would become our president in the beginning of 2016, and look where we are now. Donald Trump is going to be the next president of the United States and it happened in 2016, the wildest year in history. Coincidence? I think not.

4. Pokemon Go

People were literally getting into car accidents, injuring themselves, and ending friendships because of this damn game. Who knew fictional creatures on a smart phone could cause so much havoc around the world? Pokemon Go should stay in 2016. The world might be a slightly safer place without hooligans running around neighborhoods chasing virtual pikachu.

5. Hiddleswift

Aka the world's worst couple name for a couple who didn't last long anyway. Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Swift got together in 2016 and ended rather quickly. People were up in arms about this relationship too as if it really mattered. But it was all over social media and major headlines as if it were a global disaster. Luckily, the drama ended when the couple ended.

6. Brexit

Don't worry America, Great Britain was also a shit show with their politics this year as well. We weren't the only ones with shocking results and WTF moments in the political atmosphere. Why people thought it would be a good idea to leave the EU is a mystery, to be honest.

7. Various unforgettable memes

Many of these fall into the WTF category but are also some of the better things to have come out of 2016. Long live expressions from Gavin, Arthur's clenched fist, caveman SpongeBob and last, but most importantly, the Joe Biden and Obama memes. 2016 was a year of unforgettable memes that connected the world. They may have been strange, but they sure were funny and relatable.

8. Harambe

Yes, the best was saved for last. I know this is still hard for many to talk about because Harambe was beloved by many, especially after his tragic death. But seriously, thousands, maybe millions, spent this past year worshipping a dead gorilla. A dead gorilla was written in on multiple presidential ballots. Let that sink in and accurately represent this year. But for real, RIP Harambe. Your legend lives on.

These are just some of the many bizarre things that happened in 2016. This year was one wild ride and I'm not sure about others, but I'm ready to get off. Please be better, 2017.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
