On the evening of November 5th, 2016, Donald Trump was escorted from an election rally because of an assassination threat. Some people were worried or scared about the life of their Republican candidate. Some were angry spewing out words and insults that targeted Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton as the suspect behind this act. Then on the opposing side, you have people making statements about the worth of a man's life. Across social media, people were actually saying that they were happy that Donald Trump was almost shot.
Regardless of who he is and what he believes in, he is a human being. He is a husband, a friend and a father to those in his life. What gives people the right to want to take a person's life and to want a heinous act to happen? That's not right. What gives people the right to persecute another for their political beliefs? That's not right. Years ago when presidential elections took place, there was respect and honor that came in electing our next Commander-in-Chief. There was excitement and respect rather fear and hatred. I see it. People are afraid of the outcome of the election and our country is experiencing acts that are dividing us by party, race, religion.
And to think our generation was better than our grandparents' generation. We all thought that we would move past discrimination and racism. We all thought that the millennials would be the ones to live without chaos amongst our people. Sadly, this election has divided us but is this election worth the integrity of our country? When this election is over, we all go back to our regular lives. No voting booths. No campaign banners. No fighting. Once this election is over and we find out who will be our next president, we will back to living our lives amongst one another. Just ordinary citizens living our lives side by side. We have to remain united as a nation or we will falter together.
United We Stand. United We Shall Remain.
