The Choices Aren't Great

It seems that it's about time that I respond to the overbearing question: Hillary or Trump? Neither, to be blunt. Honestly, I wish that Obama could serve a third term because Trump and Clinton (I think she should be referred by her last name since all of the other candidates are normally referred to in this manner, and she is no exception, even if she has a vagina) have turned politics into a Twitter war, a who-can-trash-who-better contest. That's not what the election should be about. It should be about informing the public of the plans that are necessary to help our country thrive, but instead it's pitting everyone against one another. How can America thrive if we all hate one another so viciously and violently?

Trump has promoted hatred towards minorities and groups of people that long for peace and love. He advocates racism and violence towards those who are different, and he will ultimately force our nation to take 10 steps backwards. We will once again face lynching and murder, possible slavery, and the streets will be lined with protesters and blood because people failed to acknowledge the harm in his motives. I do not support Trump in the slightest.

"Let's build a wall." A wall? Is it going to be around Trump 24/7? In that case, he can have his wall and all the hatred that he can muster. I'm tired of hearing him talk about how we should deny immigrants who seek a better lifestyle into the U.S. This country was built on the basis of immigration and we should be taking people in who want to achieve the American Dream. We must all come together for our country to function; otherwise, the country will tear itself apart with the hatred that so many throw out into the world. We are all different and that's what makes us all special and unique. If we don't start accepting each other's differences, then we will never be able to live in peace. I was appalled at how my hometown advocated Trump, his beliefs, and his "solutions" to making America a great nation once more, although it never ceased being great. The direction that we need to be going is a direction involving peace and love, not building a wall and promoting racism.

Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, has had so many allegations made towards her concerning secret e-mails and the FBI that I honestly don't know what is truth and what is not. When she was running against Obama, I supported having a female president, and I was somewhat on her side again this go-around. Bernie Sanders was also an excellent candidate who advocated for the working class. Now, I'm not sure what to really think about Clinton since she and Trump have a bashing war taking place on Twitter, taking jabs at one another over stupid issues that have nothing to do with the government.

It's painful to watch presidential candidates cut deep into one another over stupid shit. There's always issues that get argued over, such as abortion and contraceptives, which shouldn't be argued over since women should have access to both if they deem it necessary. People need to start focusing on the important issues, such as employment and minimum wage, instead of fueling hate and bigotry. We need to strive to love one another and accept our differences to keep our nation from diminishing.

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.
