What The 2016 Presidential Election Taught Me About Hollywood

What The 2016 Presidential Election Taught Me About Hollywood

On November 9th, 2016, at sometime after 2:00 a.m. in the morning, the American people had spoken and Donald J. Trump was officially our elected president. The campaigning process had lasted for over 18 months and needless to say, it was a long couple of months for the American people. We, the Americans, had fought hard and stood up for what was right and for what we believed in, and finally we were heard. But perhaps the most shocking part about this whole process has been the reactions post election day. Everything from rioting, to protesting and going as far as to burn our country's flag and physically beating up Trump's supporters to make a point, is just a glimpse of what has been going on.

For me, the most shocking part is learning just how many of my celebrity role models are complete liberals. I guess in a way I could expect it from some, but almost all of Hollywood are democrats and they are extremely vocal about that. Now to clarify, I am all for other people's opinions, freedom of speech and the liberty to believe what you want, despite my conservative background. But what I cannot understand is their disrespect for Trump, for his supporters and most importantly for the United States of America, the land that I, and many others love.

After Trump was elected in the early hours of the morning, Hillary supporters were devastated and livid, especially her many pop star supporters who helped to campaign for her. Lady Gaga protested on a garbage truck outside of Trump Tower after finding out he was officially elected. Madonna urged people to rebel against Trump. Katy Perry told everyone to "peacefully protest," which is far from what these people have been doing.

What I want people to understand is that these Hollywood role models cannot even begin to put themselves in an average Americans shoes, even if they wanted too. They don't understand what it is like to get up every morning and go to work. They don't know what it feels like to work the same job for over twenty years without any kind of raise. Heck! They don't even have any idea what it is like for the average American family that brings in roughly $52,000 annually. They can't even fathom what it's like to earn so little.

They don't pay and arm and a leg for healthcare. They don't work long hours and get slammed with high taxes, which in turn help people on the streets who don't contribute to society. They don't understand what it is like to worry about providing for their family. Most of them don't have the pleasure of knowing any of the men and women that sacrifice their entire lives to fight for the freedom of our country. In simple terms they just don't get it because they don't live the kind of lives that we the American people do.

Something else you should realize - Hollywood is full of role models but that does not mean they are modeling the right thing. They all have their own agendas to speak out and push their liberal thinking in hopes that they will have a significant impact on their fans. So for that I call them negative role models. The bottom line is they are entertainers, not political officials so what gives them the right to push their liberal agendas on all of us. Whether they are liberal or even conservative, they shouldn't be pushing their agenda, but they are. I appreciate the few celebrities I look up to that weren't vocal about where they stood in this presidential election. They either took a stance, or didn't even touch on the subject, but they did not try to sway the political stance of their fans, unlike Beyonce, Jay-Z and Katy Perry who were doing free concerts just days leading up to the election, in hopes to gain millennial votes for Hillary. As a die-hard Trump supporter, all I can say is, thank God we can say that their opinions, in the end, had little to no impact.

At the end of all this, I have lost respect for many of the people of Hollywood. I simply cannot look at them in the same way that I used too. They should be setting an example to their fans, especially the younger generation that really does look up to them. Because if they truly believed that "love trumps hate" then maybe they'd actually live that out instead of worrying about protesting because for once they didn't get their way. If you have a problem with the new leader of our country then no one is making you stay here. That goes for all, whether you are a celebrity or not. If you cannot respect this country and it's people who made a choice, then you don't deserve to be apart of this great country because there are others who would die to live here. You can stay, or you can go, but the bottom line is we will MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN with, or without you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
