So, if you have been keeping up with my draft analysis, you'll know that I made one a couple weeks ago that is now completely nullified by the recent trades in the draft.
On the bright side, the Eagles now have the second overall pick!! However, I now have to redo my mock. So, here goes nothing! The following is my newly updated 2016 NFL Draft.
1. Los Angeles Rams- Jared Goff, QB, California
The Rams, after selling the farm, will get their quarterback. Will he be a franchise QB? Only time will tell. They pick Goff over Wentz because Goff is more polished and ready for the big leagues, and the Rams want to see the fruits of their trade as soon as possible.
2. Philadelphia Eagles- Carson Wentz, QB, North Dakota State University
The Eagles also sold parts of the farm in order to draft a franchise quarterback, and with Sam Bradford (currently) on the roster, and Chase Daniel as the backup, Wentz is the perfect prospect for the Eagles to develop into their future. With desireable athleticism and a good work ethic, he could be the Eagles' next McNabb at No. 2.
3. San Diego Chargers- Jalen Ramsey, CB/S, Florida State University
Jalen Ramsey is the best player in this draft, and fills a need for the Chargers. I do not see them passing up on this generational player for Tunsil, like many other mocks do.
4. Dallas Cowboys- Myles Jack, LB, UCLA
The Cowboys are in need of some foundational defensive players who don't have character issues. Myles Jack is coming off of a knee injury, so his health could be in question, but his talent is unquestionable. He would be the next best thing if Ramsey is gone.
5. Jacksonville Jaguars- Joey Bosa, EDGE, Ohio State University
This leaves out the Jaguars, who would love to take Jack for their foundations on defense. However, they would certainly love to have another foudnational piece on their line for years to come to complement Dante Fowler Jr. from last year's draft.
6. Baltimore Ravens- Laremy Tunsil, OT, Ole Miss
The Ravens luck out with the Titans trading back into the draft, leaving Tunsil to fall here. The Ravens need a tackle, and Tunsil is the real deal.
7. San Francisco 49ers- DeForest Buckner, D-Line, Oregon
This is a best-available player choice. Buckner can play 3-4 DE or 4-3 DT, and he can dominate. There have been questions as to high his ceiling is, but everyone knows he is a stud on defense.
8. Cleveland Browns- Ronnie Stanley, OT, Notre Dame
I believe the Browns will trade back again to get more picks and try to draft Paxton Lynch, but if they stay put then they try to rebuild their franchise in this draft with the second best offensive tackle available.
9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Vernon Hargreaves III, CB, Florida
The Bucs need a cornerback, and Hargreaves has been the best corner in the NCAA for the last couple of years (if you count Ramsey as a safety).
10. New York Giants- Shaq Lawson, EDGE, Clemson
The Giants have a miserable defense, so they hope to build a with a pass-rusher who can play the run with Lawson.
11. Chicago Bears- Leonard Floyd, EDGE, Georgia
Speaking of a need at pass-rusher, the Bears take Floyd here who could be one of the sneakiest EDGE defenders in the draft, as he has been finding himself higher and higher on draft boards.
12. New Orleans Saints- Sheldon Rankins, D-Line, Louisville
The Saints are also looking for help on the defense, and Rankins is a monster. With more of the top-teir pass rushers being drafted by this point, the Saints take a big fella up front.
13. Miami Dolphins- Ezekiel Elliot, RB, Ohio State
Lamar Miller will be replaced, and possibly exceeded, by the best running back prospect since Adrian Peterson. Look for Elliot to be the Offensive Rookie of the Year.
14. Oakland Raiders- Darron Lee, LB, Ohio State
Darron Lee is the most athletic inside linebacker in the first round (maybe in the draft, I'd have to compare him and LSU's Deion Jones). I see Lee and Khalil Mack becoming a dynamic duo for the Raiders.
15. Tennessee Titans- Jack Conklin, OT, Michigan State
Although not the prospect that Tunsil is, the Titans trade back and still get a phenomenal offensive tackle. I love Conklin's aggression, and I think the Titans will too.
16. Detroit Lions- Laquon Treadwell, WR, Ole Miss
In lieu of Calvin Johnson's retirement, the Lions take the carbon-copy replacement of him in this draft with Treadwell. Can he live up to Megatron?
17. Atlanta Falcons- A'Shawn Robinson, D-Line, Alabama
These defensive linemen picks are everywhere. Robinson can be a huge man in the middle to swallow blockers for the Falcons' developing pass rush.
18. Indianapolis Colts- Taylor Decker, OT, Ohio State
Taylor Decker and Andrew Luck just seem like they'd be friends. Decker will likely move around at guard and tackle, but I've had the Colts taking him since my last mock.
19. Buffalo Bills- Paxton Lynch, QB, Memphis
The Bills decide to take a very developmental quarterback- if he's available- and see if he can work under Tyrod Taylor before Taylor starts asking for big money. Emphasis on developmental quarterback.
20. New York Jets- Noah Spence, EDGE, Eastern Kentucky
After likely trying to move up to get Lynch, the Jets fill a need with Spence, whose draft stock has begun to fall after he rose during the Senior Bowl. I still see Spence as a solid choice, and this being a quality value-pick.
21. Washington- Jarran Reed, D-Line, Alabama
Washington would love to have some help on the inside of the D-line, and Reed may be the best prospect available. He seems to have a higher draft stock than Andrew Billings, so he goes to D.C. here.
22. Houston Texans- Josh Doctson, WR, TCU
Doctson, in my opinion, is the best wide-reciever in the draft. I see him and DeAndre Hopkins becomming a two-headed monster.
23. Minnesota Vikings- Will Fuller, WR, Notre Dame
In a toss up between Coleman and Fuller, the Vikings take Fuller for his big play ability after running a faster 40 yard dash.
24. Cincinnati Bengals- Corey Coleman, WR, Baylor
With Fuller gone, the Bengals take the next best option with Coleman, who still has big-play potential.
25. Pittsburgh Steelers- Eli Apple, CB, Ohio State
I'm almost getting tired of all of these Ohio State players in the first round. Apple has risen past Mackensie Alexander, and could very easily find himself in a Steelers jersey.
26. Seattle Seahawks- Andrew Billings, D-Line, Baylor
This is a beautiful match. Instead of reaching for an offensive tackle, the Seahawks go defense-first with Billings, who is one of my favorite defensive linemen in this draft. He reminds me a lot of Philly's Bennie Logan (reminder that I'm an Eagles fan).
27. Green Bay Packers- Reggie Ragland, LB, Alabama
Ragland is the classic inside linebacker who can hit. The Packers love players like Ragland who are traditional studs. This might be my favorite pick of the first round (two mocks in a row).
28. Kansas City Chiefs- William Jackson III, CB, Houston
William Jackson III is a speedy little corner who finds himself in the first round to try to replace Sean Smith for the Chiefs. Those are big shoes to fill.
29. Arizona Cardinals- Mackensie Alexander, CB, Clemson
The Cardinals need to improve either their pass rush or their corners, so they take a risk on Mackensie Alexander, the Clemson corner who broke up countless passes but could never intercept one in his college career.
30. Carolina Panthers- Kevin Dodd, EDGE, Clemson
The Panthers look for an EDGE defender and come to find Shaq Lawson's partner in crime, Dodd. I see this as a bit of a reach.
31. Denver Broncos- Connor Cook, QB, Michigan State
Last mock I had Hackenberg be drafted by the Broncos, but this time around I think Cook is seen as the more elite prospect, and a safer pick in general.
Let me know where you disagree with me!
I again used Matt Miller's Big Board, even if it's a little outdated (I accounted for the differences in draft stock). I also based some decisions off of ESPN's take on each team's draft needs, and I referenced another Bleacher Report Mock Draft, mostly as a guide in case I was stumped on any pick that I had less of an understanding of.
