20 of 2016's Hottest Wedding Trends

As wedding season is quickly approaching, I begin to think of all the dancing that is to be done, the food that is to be eaten and the wedding trends that will be popping up everywhere. Now, wedding trends come and go just like most trends should, I thank the Lord that the big bows and sleeves of 80’s wedding are no longer cute and that the tight updos and satin bridesmaid dresses of the 90’s are out of style, yet, every decade has its notable trends that everyone fell in love because, well, they were the newest things during that time; I just hope that the trends of 2016 won’t leave me cringing in 15 years. Anyways, here are 20 wedding trends to be on the look for in 2016.

1. Naked Cakes

While the naked cake trend may have started to make its way on the scene in 2015, 2016 is going to be the year that is it as every other wedding you go to.

2. Brunch Weddings

Sunny weather, a light meal and mimosas, these are the most appealing aspects of a brunch wedding. While afternoon ceremonies with evening receptions will always be popular, many couples are opting for the late morning/early afternoon combination for their nuptials. It is cost effective, unique and you get to serve the best meal of all: brunch.

3. Illusion Necklines

The days of strapless, mermaid gowns are over, bohemian styles and sheer necklines are taking the cake with young brides. Feeling free and chic on your wedding day is how brides want to feel and 2016 will be the year free spirit brides rejoice.

4. Greenery

Bringing the outdoors inside will be huge this year. From succulents to vines, having lush greens all over is already blowing up on the wedding scene.

5. Rose Gold

2015 saw the introduction of rose gold, but now it is coming at us with full force. Pair it with colors like blush or lavender and you now have an instantly fabulous, trendy wedding. Be on the look out for this trend at 2016 spring and summer weddings.

6. Macaroons and Cake Pops

While traditional cakes have been fading more and more in recent years, 2016 will be the year “high end” cake alternatives will start to make it big at weddings. Macaroon towers and cake pop arrangements will be some of the most popular.

7. Rose, Peony and Foliage Bouquets

Roses and peonies have been the most desired flowers for bouquets so far in 2016, but adding foliage to the bouquet will be a trend that continues to grow through out the year. These bouquets will be huge for spring and summer weddings.

8. Two-Piece Wedding Dresses

The idea that you will actually be able to wear your wedding dress again is becoming extremely popular. Wear the top to a fancy dinner, wear the bottom to Sunday brunch, by having a two-piece wedding dress you will be able to wear your dress time and time again.

9. Maroon and Gold

Just wait until the fall wedding season comes around, but dark, rich maroon and vibrant, yellow gold are going to be everywhere in the autumn.

10. Maxi Bridesmaid Dresses

Brides don’t want their bridesmaids to feel uncomfortable or make them pay hundreds of dollars for a dress, so maxi dresses have started to become a popular alternative to typical bridesmaid gowns. Be on the look out for these simple, dressed up numbers this wedding season.

11. Instagram Photo Walls

Wedding and relationship hashtags are the standard nowadays, but printing out your memories for all to see on your special day, that is going to become a new craze this year.

12. Minimalist Cake Toppers

A cute wire sculpture or a simple banner across the top is what brides want on top of their cakes in 2016. Say goodbye to traditional figurines as cake toppers.

13. Garden Wedding

Along with the greenery trend, garden venues have already started blowing up this year. Being in an outdoor space that feels cozy is what couples want, and it is a trend that is taking over. 2016 is the year for gardens.

14. Candle Centerpieces

Candles are romantic, inexpensive and aromatic. Adding glitter, vases, and different heights/widths helps make this seemingly basic centerpiece into a chic 2016 wedding trend.

15. Family Seating

Having long tables with gorgeous center runners was just a dream on a bride’s Pinterest board in 2015, but in 2016, her dream will finally come true. This trend has been popping up all over the internet and will only grow stronger as wedding season hits full swing.

16. Flower Walls

Thank Kim Kardashian and Kanye for this, but it is a stunning trend that can transform anyone’s ceremony into a suave affair. From using them as a backdrop for your ceremony to being the photo booth, flower walls are going to be big in 2016.

17. Vintage

This has been on the rise for the last few years, but instead of the theme being shabby-chic or vintage-country, it is going to be high-end vintage. I’m talking fine china, crystal glasses and a strong Victorian influence being the new vintage theme in 2016.

18. Glass Signs

Chalkboard signs are so boring now, glass and mirror signs are what’s trending for 2016. They look elegant and bring an essence of sophistication to any wedding.

19. Hummus Bar

Instead of having typical cheese and meat platters, many couples are having different types of hummus as a new take on the cocktail hour. By having a variety of veggies, pita bread and chips, you are sure to satisfy all your guests and their dietary needs.

20. Food Trucks

Who doesn’t love late night food? 2016 will be the year receptions across the country have food trucks galore. Featuring delicious food, great catering prices, and smiles on your guests faces as they walk out, food trucks are the way to go when you want a late-night food option at your wedding.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.

What's up Asshat,

I've composed a list of things that I wish upon you, and they're harsh and cruel. These things are things that I wouldn't wish upon my worst of enemies, not even that Starbuck's barista who always screws up my order, not even him. You fall into a whole other category of hate. You surpass Starbucks barista. Congratulations, I'm actually a pretty nice person, making you worthy of every single bit of torture I wish upon you. What are these things I wish upon you you might ask?
