Fall is undeniably hands down the absolute BEST season of the four options. First, you have all the wonderful spicy and musky scents, then the leaves change to an aesthetically pleasing color palette of rich reds and vibrant oranges, and lastly and most importantly, the endless array of new clothing choices. Being a merchandising major, I find it particularly important that I stay up to date with the upcoming trends for each season. Therefore, I have made a list of the upcoming trends for Fall 2016 that I am most looking forward to!
1. Velvet
When I was younger, I ventured out with parents to the local Target and I immediately gravitated to this beautiful deep burgundy tracksuit (remember when those were a thing?). Unfortunately, we left the store empty handed and I was left with an unsettling regret for not purchasing the outfit. After waiting almost ten years, the velvet trend has resurfaced and I will buy as many velvet material garments as it takes to satisfy my regret. But on a slightly more serious note, I feel as though velvet can instantly enhance any outfit because of how regal and classy it looks. Also, I would imagine that it would be quite comfy to wear, and honestly isn't that one of the main goals?
2. (Faux) shearling bomber jacket
Bomber jackets were a crowd favorite in the spring with its lightweight material and fun prints and colors. Many designers decided to carry over the cult favorite trend and make it functional for the chillier months by adding shearling to the mix; however, I will only buy one if it's faux, but you do you. I think that jackets are one of my favorite pieces to add to an outfit if it needs something extra because of how versatile they are with the different styles and prints. I think this will be a great addition because it looks like you actually tried (when we all know you didn't because who really tries when we're just going to class) and will keep you warm.
3. Cat Printed EVERYTHING
Despite the fact that I'm actually more of a dog person, every time I see an article of clothing that has a cat on it, I go crazy! Cat-printed socks? buying them without a second thought. Sweater with a cat on it? you best believe I'll be rocking that the next day. Sheer leggings with the cattails on the back? Hell yes! I think that this trend has had a slower time getting accepted but I also strongly believe that it will have a break through this fall. If the designers keep pushing it on us (which I'm not complaining) then eventually we will all own at least one garment or accessory with a cat on it.
4. Cape Jackets
Yet another jacket trend that I'm so ready for! Sorry, not sorry. Ever since I saw the Gossip Girl episode where Blair Waldorf is wearing the green cape jacket, I have searched high and low for one. Alas, I turned up empty handed because at the time cape jackets weren't really on trend yet. So here I sit, researching up and coming trends ready to burst with excitement because my time has come to finally find my perfect cape jacket and get every last use out of it as I can.
5. Metallic Shine
Dressing up can be hard, we all know that. Most of the time we either don't have the energy or time to put actual effort into coming up with a socially acceptable outfit. If that's the case, then no need to worry any longer; just throw on some simple black leggings, a metallic or embellished oversized sweater, some booties and you're good to go. I can guarantee this will be my go-to outfit, and the best part is that I will never have to worry if how I look; for some unknown reason, that little bit of gleam boosts any outfit drastically. Also, I just REALLY like shiny things.
