The 2016 Equal Rights Movement

We All Bleed Red

The 2016 Equal Rights Movement

Recently not only the LGBT community made headlines, but the black and Muslim communities have joined them in what I call the 2016 equal rights movement. Now the black community gained their rights back in the 1950s, so shouldn't they be treated the same by now? Unfortunately people still believe that the white community is superior to any other race. I believe everyone should be treated the same no matter their race, gender, sexual preference, or religion. We're all bleed red, so what's it matter? We're all different. It's 2016 why is race and sexual preference even an issue? Shouldn't that issue already be resolved?

The LGBT community recently gained the right to get married legally all across the country. Other than that, they all were treated equally right? Wrong. People still judge them for their sexual preference and even Unwelcome them in certain work places and even bathrooms. Target made headlines by making unisex bathrooms for transgenders. But why? Why can't people just use the bathroom that they identify themselves as? No one has to know that someone was born a girl but identify themselves as a guy. It's no one else's business but that persons. People are so concerned with other people than themselves that they spend so much time trying to change other people's views and sexual preference to be like theirs, they don't realize they're going against what they're preaching themselves. The big issue with the LGBT community is that they go against the Bible. Okay? Technically the Bible says it's a sin to eat pork but here we are, living in a world in love with bacon and pork chops. Jesus also died for our sins. We weren't made to be perfect. It's in our human nature to sin, so why should we judge a certain group of people for their “sin”, when in reality everyone sins? One sin isn't worse than another one, so why judge one sin more than the others? It's not our jobs to try and change the way someone feels about someone else. That's all them. If a girl loves another girl then great! Just let them be happy!

Okay since religion is a big factor in the gay rights movement, let's bring up Muslims. In Muslim culture it's just as wrong to be gay as it is in the Christian culture. Again. It's not up to people to change gays. The Orlando club shooting happened because a Muslim follower disagreed with the club attendants sexual preference so he brought it upon himself to weed out the gay population by a few people. That's extreme. Just because something is against your religion doesn't mean you need to take it upon yourself to fix the world to follow your religion along with you. Everyone has a mind and beliefs of their own. We need to respect that. With that being said, just because the man who killed all of those innocent people in that club was an Muslim doesn't mean that all Muslims in America are going to go around and kill off the whole LGBT community. I personally know a couple Muslims myself and they're good people who wouldn't even hurt a fly. Just because a few people from a certain race or religion do something doesn't mean that everyone from that religion or race are going to do the same thing as those few people. I know it makes it hard to not blame the whole culture or race, but it's not their fault that that group of people choose to do those things. We should work with them to do the right thing, not just discriminate against them and make them feel uncomfortable. They should be able to live normal lives and not have to worry about being judged for their culture.

The black community has faced many obstacles throughout American History. From defeating slavery and over coming segregation, African Americans have had it rough. Since most of their progression has happened in the last 100 years, a lot of the older Americans were alive before African Americans had rights, so changing their views are a lot harder. It's hard to change the way you look at something when you grew up a certain way. With African Americans going through so much to have the rights they have now, you would think that they're treated equally to White Americans right? Again, wrong. People can't seem to grow up and look passed the past. Some people aren't willing to change, so they treat African Americans the same as they did when they were younger, before segregation. Many of those who didn't want to change have since had children and teach their children to view African Americans has a lower class than White Americans. I believe this is a major factor in all of the racism going on now, in 2016. Some African Americans do act ignorant so some people base their opinion on the color of their skin soley from their experience with ignorant African Americans. What those people fail to realize, however, is that there are just as many, if not more, white Americans who do the exact same things that those African Americans do. In the end, the people who judge African Americans based only on the thugs and gangsters you see in movies are actually more ignorant than the thugs and gangsters themselves.

It's 2016, The United States has so much more to worry about than racism. Racism shouldn't be an issue anymore after everything our ancestors have had to go through to gain the rights everyone has now. It's ignorant to base your opinion on a race or religion on just one small group of people. We shouldn't compare the good people of a race to the bad. In the end, were all the same. In the end we all bleed red. It's 2016, let's put racism aside and all get along and help each other build up this country before it comes falling down due to ignorance!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
