2016: Crazy year for sports
This has been a crazy year for the sports world. Crazy shots, upsets, games, and series that are considered historic, streaks ending, and some of the greatest finishes for individuals. Let’s take a look at all that has occurred.
NBA: First off we have had three of the greatest to play hang it up and call it a career. Kobe Bryant finishes his career with a 60 point game in the season finale, and two of the best forwards Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan call it quits over the summer. Lebron gets his third ring after the Cavaliers win their first title in franchise history and the first for Cleveland in 52 years. Not only were the Cavs historic they also were the first team in Finals history to go from being down 3-1 in the Finals to win the title. Even though the Cavs won you have to give credit to the Golden State Warriors because of their record breaking regular season. They beat out the ‘95-’96 Bulls in having the best record with the Warriors going 73-9.
NCAAM: Specifically the March Madness Tournament. There were so many great upsets. Michigan State losing to Mid Tennessee, and Villanova winning the tournament in dramatic fashion. Nova not to mention they beat the team that was said to win it all. Then they beat UNC for the championship with the two greatest shots occurring within seconds of each other. Marcus Paige with a crazy three to tie and then Kris Jenkins with a three to win.
MLB: Specifically the World Series, the Cubs made their first World Series appearance in 108 years. The Indians making their first appearance since 1948. Though this was a very good series, there’s nothing to make this series even better. Game 7 goes to extras and the Cubs win the World Series, ending the longest drought and streak in MLB history. The Indians have had a while since they won but not as bad as this.
NFL: Peyton Manning goes into retirement with a great ending to his career as he lead the Broncos to a Super Bowl win on the Super Bowl’s 50 anniversary. In doing so the Broncos beat the best team in the league by a dominating performance from the Super Bowl MVP Von Miller and the Broncos defense.
Soccer: speaking of other retirements, Abby Wambach goes out with a bang as she helps the Women’s National team win the World Cup. That being the third in for the women. Abby was an incredible soccer player who’s legacy will live on.
