2015 Summer Bucket List

2015 Summer Bucket List

Summer is meant for spending time with friends, lounging by the beach, enjoying your family, and (most importantly) three full months of no school work. Along with summer comes an abundance of free time, which makes it the prime time to do everything you never had the opportunity to do during the school year. Here's a list of things every college student should try to do during the next few months before the craziness of school comes back.

Watching the sunrise at least once. During the school year I need all the sleep I can get, but no classes means I can get up (gasp) before it's light outside, catch a view of one of the most breathtaking things on Earth that happens every day (which frankly we take for granted way too much), and go back home and take a nap without having to be worried about having to get up to go to Physics 102 at 9 am (shout out to whoever came up with the idea of having three months off of school).

Have a bonfire. Even if it's just a make-believe one in your backyard (but you get bonus points if you have it at the beach), getting all your friends together around a fire can make some of the best summer memories. Extra extra bonus points if you remember to stop by the store to get stuff to make s'mores.

Having an all-day Harry Potter marathon (or whatever your favorite movie or tv show series is). I don't even know if I should be admitting this, but I have to shamefully admit that I've never seen the Harry Potter movies. I keep saying that I need to watch them, but I haven't had time to do so. Needless to say, I will be taking a break from the world for a day to lock myself in my room and watch all eight movies (finally - yes friends, this means you have to stop making fun of me for never watching them).

Take a road trip with your best friend. Whether it's just to the beach, or to the next state over, sometimes it's nice to just turn on the radio and sing along to all of your favorite songs together (plus there's plenty of time to gossip about both of your year's away at school).

Finally reading that book that's been sitting on your night table for months. Whether your an avid reader or someone who hasn't picked up a book in years, there is absolutely nothing like sitting out in the sun while reading a good novel. It's not only time for yourself, but it's also a few minutes (or hours) a day that allows you to take a break from the cyber world. Plus, I'm sure your parents would be happy to boast about their "well rounded, literary-engaged college student" (don't worry, I won't tell them about your grades if you don't).

Taking your younger siblings out to lunch. I know it may sound stupid, but we sometimes forget how quickly time flies. Next thing you know, they're going to be all grown up and away at college too, and you're (probably) going to wish (maybe just for a second) that you were all little again.

Have a picnic at your favorite childhood park (or any cute place downtown). Not only will it make for a perfect Instagram pic, but it's also fun to pack sandwiches in a basket and eat lunch/dinner outdoors. It gives you a good reason to spend a beautiful day outside soaking up the sun.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
