Who let 6ix9ine and Lil Baby take over our radios and where did the real music go? Regardless of what you're listening to now, it's undeniably so that music in the 2000s/early 2010s was poppin'. But I think sometimes we focus too much on old party songs and forget the other bops that were around. 3OH!3, Jesse McCartney, The Black Eyed Peas, and so many others gave us a plethora of tunes that we neglect to remember a decade later.
Here are 10 songs from yesteryear that you maybe wouldn't hear on your average throwback playlist.
1. "Impossible" by Shontelle
I can't be the only one who belted this on low-quality YouTube karaoke. I lived for the drama in this song and could've very easily been found humming this passionately in my fifth-grade lunch line.
2. "Carry On" by fun.
My ability to move on from my middle school drama is owed to this song.
3. "Boom Boom Pow" by Black Eyed Peas
Busting out Fergie's solo in this was like a religious experience.
4. "Feel So Close" by Calvin Harris
This song may have been a bit overplayed on the radio, but man oh man, it was a bop.
5. "Gives You Hell" by All-American Rejects
Nothing like the dirty looks your mom would shoot you while this played in the car.
6. "Don't Trust Me" by 3OH!3
SHUSH, GIRL, SHUT YA LIPS. DO THE HELEN KELLER AND TALK WITH YOUR HIPS.
7. "Battlefield" by Jordin Sparks
This song had my 9-year-old self armoring up for a boyfriend I had yet to find.
8. "She Wolf" by Shakira
Not one of Shakira's bigger hits, but definitely worth mentioning.
9. "If U Seek Amy" by Britney Spears
Perhaps I didn't understand the real meaning of this song when it was playing on the radio, but that sure didn't stop me from belting it in the shower.
10. "How Do You Sleep" by Jesse McCartney ft. Ludacris
No comments needed. A CLASSIC.
