20 Ways "Monsters University" Accurately Explains College

"I can't believe it...I'm officially a college student!"

It turns out that humans and monsters aren't so different, after all, even if we are separated by closet doors. Pixar's brilliant movie "Monsters University" is my favorite depiction of college, by far. From the very first day of school, finding friends and studying, I relate to just about everything. The accuracy of Mike and Sulley's adventures and struggles through college is uncanny!

1. Your very first day is one to remember.

You set foot on campus excited to take the world by storm!

2. When you first meet your roommate and think you’ll be instant best pals.

Sometimes it does work out that way, but sometimes it just doesn't.

3. As time goes on, you realize living with someone you don’t know can sometimes be a hairy situation.

You make the best of it, though!

4. Eventually, you find your people.

The kind of friends you've been looking for, the ones you can be weird with and who will let you be yourself.

5. You go to class on the first day hoping to find the building, room, and a good seat in record time.

You can't be late!

6. The activities fair is always a great place to sign up for all the organizations you’d been hoping for.

Of course, you only ending up really sticking to a couple of them, but continue to get emails all year.

7. Eating the dining hall food day after day.

There have definitely been meals where I've questioned what they were exactly.

8. The feeling when you finally get an A!

And you walk out of class like a boss.

9. Big rivalry games.

If your school is known for its sports, chances are you’re like the Monster’s University team. If you’re lacking in the athletics, you’re Fear Tech. This can also apply to the super tall athletes on campus who you try to avoid walking into.

10. Getting excited by any type of money because you’re a poor college student.

Every cent counts!

11. You and your friends at parties.

You're either one or the other.

12. When the party gets out of hand.

There's always those guys who jump out the window immediately.

13. The three types of students.

The kid in every class who constantly raises their hand, the one who gets by just by showing up, maybe even taking a nap or two, and, the rest of us drones.

14. Walking behind the slowest walkers on the planet as you’re heading to class.

I don't have all day here, I have places to go!

15. When the Freshman 15 has hit, and you attempt to be fit.

This is an actually GIF of me in the gym.

16. What you really do as you study in the quiet library.

And you thought I had nice, soft music to focus. Ha.

17. Finals week.

There's never enough coffee.

18. When you've studied for days and just can't take it anymore!

It's like a study coma, but you have to keep going.

19. When Sulley explained just how scary it is to decide what to do with your life.

Sometimes you will fail, you may change your major, transfer or have complete breakdowns.

20. To get to the top, you first have to start at the bottom.

But with hard work, you can be the best scare team in the biz!

Maybe life isn't so different from the movies, after all!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
