20 Thoughts You Have While Procrastinating Your Homework
Liz Smorse

Every student has struggled with putting off an assignment until the last minute. Whether it be because you haven’t slept in days and are too tired or you just want to watch Netflix instead, you’ve been a victim of procrastination. For those like me, you practically major in the art of procrastination. Here are only a few of the thousands of thoughts that go through my mind while I’m in the midst of doing anything besides what I should be doing - my homework!

1. “Okay. First, I have to get organized. Let me make a list of everything that I have to do for the next… um… five months! And then I’ll start this assignment.”

2. “Wow, this homework looks really stressful. Maybe I should watch an episode of Shameless first… or two… or three.”

3. “When was the last time that I cleaned under my bed? I should probably do that.”

4. “I don’t have time to do homework right now! The Bachelor starts in three hours and I have to prepare for it!”

5. “I can’t find my really cool-looking pen that I had yesterday! I was gonna use that to write my paper. Oh well, I better look for it.”

6. “If I want to focus I have to be in a quiet room, but my roommate has the TV on! I wouldn’t want to be rude and ask her to turn it off… maybe I’ll just watch this for a little.”

7. “Is it raining? I bet it’s raining. That always makes me irritable! That’s probably why I am having trouble working on this assignment!”

8. “It’s not raining! It’s so nice out! Oh my gosh, why should I be stuck inside on such a beautiful day? I think I’m gonna go enjoy this weather for a bit.”

9. “I don’t even like this class. Why did I register for this class?”

10. “My professor is so nice! Maybe if I ask her for an extension she’ll allow it!”

11. “I wonder if anyone else in my class has started this… probably not. Let me text them and see what they’re up to.”

12. “I haven’t talked to my mom in a while! I bet she has some words of wisdom to help me through all of my classes.”

13. “I miss being in elementary school.”

14. “There’s only 40 days of classes left until summer break. I got this.”

15. “Wait! I don’t have any plans for this summer! I need to plan out my life. I need to look for a job! Why am I trying to focus on this assignment? There are so many more important things I have to do! There’s no time!”

16. “When was the last time I slept a full eight hours? I think I should take a nap.”

17. “I didn’t even eat yet today! How am I supposed to work on homework on an empty stomach?”

18. “I feel like I’m a pretty good student. If I don’t do this assignment, will it really affect my grade?”

19. “I need to socialize. I’ve been stuck in this room forever. I can’t do this anymore!”

20. “Screw this, I’ll just work on it tomorrow.”

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
