26 Thoughts Every College Student Has Had Before Bed
College Times

We are college students. This means that we've passed the horrific part of our life where we have to set our alarms for 6AM everyday for our high school classes, have our parents drive us everywhere, and have our parents call us about why we're late for our curfew. These little, yet super important changes are just a few of the reasons why I can sleep better at night.... At least until those late night thoughts hit. Guess some things will never change? Here are 26 of my #LateNightThoughts that I've experienced as a college student -- and you probably have, too.

1. "Wait... was that paper due tomorrow?"

2. "I haven't called my parents in a while... I wonder if they're awake right now."

3. "It's a Thursday night... Why am I not going out right now?"

4. "At least I'm not still in high school."

5. "How many days until the weekend?"

6. "Hm... Should I check my bank account, my weight, or grades to commence tonight's mental breakdown?"

7. "I wonder if my friends are up right now and wanna hang out."

8. "I'm bored." – *Opens Snapchat, catches up on snapchats*

9. "I'm bored." – *Opens Twitter, catches up on tweets*

10. "I'm bored." – *Opens Instagram, catches up on pictures*

11. "I'm bored." – *Opens Facebook, catches up on grandma*

12. "I'm still bored." – *Repeats #8-11 a thousand more times*

13. "OK if I go to bed right now that will give me almost [insert less than necessary number of hours of sleep to function] hours until my first class tomorrow."

14. "OK it's already really late... Do I really have to go to my first class tomorrow?"

15. "Why is my sleep schedule so messed up?!"

16. "Maybe if I check my school email enough, one of my professors with send out a "class is cancelled" notification."

17. "Maybe I should get up early and workout tomorrow..... LOL nah."

18. "I'm hungry... But food is so far away."

19. "I'm thirsty... But drinks are so far away."

20. "I have to pee... BUT THE BATHROOM IS SO FAR AWAY"

21. "Wow, I'm in bed really early tonight - I'm proud of myself! .... But that means I'm definitely forgetting something"

22. "What am I going to say the next time someone asks me what my major is/what I want to do for the rest of my life?"

23. "I could be saving so much money if I didn't have to pay for college"

24. *Remembers that super embarrassing thing last weekend*

25. "Should I be doing something more productive right now.... Or with my entire life, in general?"

26. "OK enough is enough - PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER... Yep, it's bed time."

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
