20 Thoughts about Turning 20

You have officially survived through two decades, successfully gone through puberty, and have somewhat figured life out at this point. At least I hope so, but honestly you are probably still learning several things. I’m learning that I now have to do this thing called “adulting.” I am still learning about what to do with my life after college, my future, what I want in life, what I will wear that day and much more. The next day, month, and even year are still unknown but I know I will continue to learn.

I officially turned 20 as of May 20 and I have had some thoughts about living through two decades.

1. At first you become super excited. The kind of excited you get when you think about food.

2. Wow, I am finally 20!

3. Two years out of high school and one more year till you are 21.

4. But then you think about less exciting things.Like the thought of having to go to work next week.

5. Wait, you are actually an adult now.Seriously, is that a thing?

6. You begin to think about what you are going to do when you graduate in two years. Do I flip hamburgers at McDonald’s or do I become a Neonatal Doctor?

7. You have to start thinking about career.Seriously…..McDonald’s doesn’t sound all that bad.

8. Your family begins asking when you are going to settle down. Are you still single? When will you find a boyfriend?I have a boyfriend… I just haven’t found him yet. He’s hiding from me. He lives in the future.

9. But you still think you are a kid.I watch Disney movies for fun on the weekend rather than going out.

10. Then you realize you are not a kid anymore. No longer a teenager anymore. I’m serious I really enjoy Disney movies.

11. Can I tell people I am a 20-teen? Is that a thing? Probably not, but I’m going to anyways.

12. 20 isn’t that old right?

13. You can still go on spontaneous adventures and laugh until you cry.

14. Just cause you are an adult now does not mean happiness is going to flee from the world.

15. In fact 20 might actually be enjoyable and fun.

16. But then you realize you are about to have to start making your own appointments.

17. I need to learn how to do taxes as well. Maybe balance a checkbook.Or just get my life together in general, maybe that’s a good start.

18. Being an adult is hard.I mean do I really have to “adult”?

19. Everything is about to be happening so fast.

20. But hey I am 20! 364 days until I turn 21!

Clearly there is a lot on my mind to think about as I turn 20. But I know I will make of it what I can. I mean hey you only turn 20 once right?

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
