In high school, I was dying to leave my hometown and experience a new world, I felt like the 336 (otherwise known as the "Tre Fo") had nothing to offer to me. There was nothing to do, and everything that was there to do -- I had already done it or been there at least 10 times. However, after moving four hours away and only going home three or four times a year there were things that I began to miss. From Tobaccoville and King to Rural Hall and everywhere else in between, here are 20 things you will miss after moving away from Winston-Salem.
1. The smell of fresh tobacco during the spring and summer (this is something I miss a lot)
2. Going to Tanglewood to see the Festival of lights
3. Eating at your favorite hole-in-the-wall restaurant
4. Being able to say what town you're actually from and people knowing exactly where you're talking about
5. Going to CookOut after Friday Night football games
6. Seeing Pilot Mountain in the distance
7. If you went to North Forsyth, Target runs before school
8. Highway 52. After having my fair share of driving I-40, highway 52 is nothing.
9. Buena Vista in the fall time
10. The rivalry between North and Reagan
11. Dewey's Bakery
12. Seeing the leaves change in the fall time
13. As weird as this is to say, once you leave, you really miss Hanes Mall.
It was the place to hang out with friends after school or on the weekends.
14. Bowman Gray Stadium
15. Going to SciWorks
16. Going to The Dixie Classic Fair
17. Going to the Grand to watch the newest movies
18. Watching Wake Forest basketball on TV
19. And finally, as weird as this is, the Wachovia building, otherwise known as the Penis Building
Nothing beats driving home four hours and being greeted by the good
