Good ol' Rock Hill. We are such a large city, but the small town atmosphere makes us all feel safe and welcomed. Whether you have lived here your whole life or moved here recently, these are some things that many of us have done and will continue to do in our beloved Rock Hill, South Carolina. So, you might be from Rock Hill if you...
1. Eat PW's Ice Cream
Kind of expensive but so worth it. The concretes and sundaes are irresistible. Four words: death by chocolate sundae.
2. Go To Winthrop Basketball Games
It seems like we all kind of forget that Rock Hill is home to a decent sized university, Winthrop. Although they don't have a football team, they have a pretty successful basketball program and many of us spent time at their games.
3. Take Trips To Carowinds
Carowinds was the middle school hang out spot. Its thrilling roller coasters and overpriced snacks and food made for a fun day with friends and family.
4. Watch Football Games
Rock Hill is often referred to as Football City. We are proud of the skills and accomplishments our high school, and even middle school, football teams have achieved. State championships and region champ titles aren't rare in Rock Hill!
5. Take Prom Pictures At Glencarin Garden
Sure, there are other places to take pictures for prom, but Glencarin is the “best” and always has been.
6. Know Glen, Glenda and Mother Goose Are Actually Celebrities
Be honest, we all have at least one picture with one of these characters from when we were younger.
7. Volunteer At Come See Me
Voted South Carolina’s festival of the year! This huge festival is full of activities for all ages and many schools, organizations and businesses volunteer to help make everything possible.
8. Volunteer At Christmasville
This newer festival just celebrated its tenth anniversary! Although Christmasville is shorter and younger than Come See Me, it is still full of fun events and various opportunities to help volunteer.
9. Tell People You Live About 30 Minutes South Of Charlotte
Even though Rock Hill is the fourth largest city in South Carolina, it’s just easier to say where you’re from using Charlotte as the guide.
10. Spend A Day On Lake Wylie
Summers in Rock Hill are hot, and most of us find a way to spend a day on the lake to cool down from the heat.
11. Complain About Having Nothing To Do For Entertainment
Despite the fact that new businesses and activities are growing and opening up throughout Rock Hill, particularly downtown, many of us complain about having nothing to do. We drive to Charlotte, Fort Mill or even Columbia to look for something and overlook what our own city has to offer.
12. Give Up On The Galleria Mall
Worst. Excuse. Of. A. Mall. Ever.
13. Forget About The Museum Of York County
Even though this museum has award-winning exhibits, we either forget about it or have only been once on a field trip in elementary school.
14. Have A Birthday Party At Striker's Bowling Alley
If we didn't have our own party at Striker's then we attended one... or three.
15. Have Elementary School Spirit Nights At Kate's Skating Rink
The first and last time many of us stepped foot in that building.
16. Take Field Trips To Brattonsville
We got to dress up in historical outfits, eat lunch out of a bucket and use the bathroom in an outhouse (well, not really, but we were supposed to pretend it was an outhouse).
17. Are Involved in ROAR Sports
Whether we were on a sports team, helped coach or refereed games, many of us were involved with the ROAR program at some point.
18. Watch CN2
Such a great newscast put on by such great people! They work hard to cover so many different aspects of York County and they even won an Emmy for "Television News Programming Excellence" in 2014 at the Southeast Regional Emmy Awards.
19. Eat At Ebenezer Grille
Hot Dogs!
20. Hang Out At Manchester
Manchester is the perfect area in Rock Hill. It has the movie theater, restaurants and shops all within walking distance. Plus it's across the street from Manchester Meadows Sports Complex!
