As we head back to Syracuse for the summer, we get to enjoy all that Syracuse offers. From the Rosamond Gifford Zoo to good old Wegmans, we miss being in Syracuse, and all there is to do!
1. Tully's
No chicken tenders can compare once you’ve had Tully’s tenders. They are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and great to be followed up by a Cookie Monster.
2. CopperTop Tavern
You will never have a meal like you will from CopperTop. From avocado eggrolls to cheesy zucchini, CopperTop never ceases to amaze.
3. Wegmans
Wegmans is the Holy Grail of grocery stores and no other supermarket can compare to Wegmans. Although it is based in Rochester, N.Y., Syracuse natives know exactly what it means to have the best grocery store of all time and how terrible it is to be without Wegmans.
4. Stella’s Diner
Not only is Stella’s Diner a cheap option for anyone looking for a good meal, but the portions are the perfect size. Stella’s is the perfect brunch location and delicious refuge for Syracuse University students.
5. Destiny USA
Destiny USA has more than 250 places to shop, and a variety of restaurants and entertainment to choose from. You could spend an entire day at Destiny and not run out of things to do!
6. Rosamond Gifford Zoo
The Rosamond Gifford Zoo is a great place for the whole family. With animals ranging from flamingos and a giant squid to tigers and snow leopards, the zoo is an amazing place.
7. The Dome
Syracuse natives are not unfamiliar with the Carrier Dome, and especially our Syracuse University basketball team. In Syracuse, we all bleed orange and watch every game possible.
8. Tipperary Hill and Coleman’s
If you’re from Syracuse, you’re accustomed to the upside down traffic light located in Tipp Hill. This is your primary location for St. Patrick’s Day, and Tuesdays are for Coleman’s Trivia Night!
9. Boom Boom Mex Mex
We are all very grateful Boom Boom has reopened with a new owner after the potential of it closing forever. The highlight of the spring is when it opens in April, and Boom Boom has the most authentic Mexican food around.
10. Byrne Dairy
Byrne Dairy’s milk is one of the highlights of the New York State Fair. Not only does Byrne Dairy have the best milk, but they also have amazing ice cream for great prices.
11. The Great New York State Fair
Going to The Fair in August is a must when in Syracuse. This week-long event is the time for deep fried Oreos, donut burgers and pizza fritte. Not only does the fair have amazing food, but it also has amazing concerts. Head out to see Flo Rida and many other free concerts at Chevy Court in 2016!
12. Gannon’s Isle
When Gannon’s opens in the spring, everyone flocks to get some of the best ice cream around. It’s perfect for after dance recitals or just a random Saturday!
13. Pastabilities
We are all familiar with spicy hot tomato oil from Pastabilities and the unlimited bread that comes with it. After you’ve had this once, you’ll likely find yourself in Wegmans buying your own jar!
14. Pete’s and Carol’s Polar Parlors
Pete’s and Carol’s Polar Parlors are locally owned ice cream shops with amazing options. They are great for after concerts and on warm summer nights.
15. Limp Lizard
Limp Lizard is one of the best catering places and restaurants around and has ribs only second to Dinosaur BBQ, which originated in Syracuse!
16. Harrison Bakery
Harrison Bakery has amazing Italian-style baked goods, from cannolis to half moons. You can’t go wrong buying pastries from Harrison Bakery!
17. Sound Garden
The Sound Garden is the record store of Syracuse and has tons of movies and music to choose from!
18. The Erie Canal
Most of New York State has been to the Erie Canal, but it runs straight through Syracuse. The canal is a great place to walk the dog or go for a run!
19. Nestico’s and Nestico’s Too
Nestico’s is a diner with amazing frittatas and all meals are served with a side of sarcasm.
20. Spaghetti Warehouse
It may not look like much on the outside, as Spaghetti Warehouse is located inside an actual old warehouse. But don’t mistake its appearance for poor quality, because Spaghetti Warehouse has some of the best Italian food you can get in Syracuse with a rustic feel.
