20 Things To Expect When You Are A High School Senior

We have all been there. Every time you tell someone that you are a high school senior, you get a response that makes you want to roll your eyes. For the class of 2017, we get to deal with this and other sentimental things for the next year of our lives. Although some people have their next four years figured out already, and some do not even have their next four months figured out, as long as you study these 20 things you will encounter, at least you will have a good responses for next time.

1.) The inevitable question: What do you want to do with your life? My answer: I am only 17, I have no clue!

2. The inevitable response when you actually answer that question honestly:I never pictured you as a journalist! (Right, because my position on the school newspaper was not a total giveaway.)

3.) “You know, college is not for everyone.”

Well, it is for me.

4.) You should look into (insert school they went to 30 years ago.) Yes, you told me that the last time you saw me. Have you seen how much their tuition costs nowadays?

5.) “It is your last year of ‘firsts!’”

Stop, I know that! It is confusing to think about but I am aware! Sort of!

6.) If someone is not suspended or hurt after spirit week, did it really happen?

7.) “Where do all of your friends want to go to college?”

Far away from where I want to go! RIP squad.

8.) You know, (insert every school ever) is a "party school."

9.) *Under class men run the other way when they see you and your friend group walking.* … I guess you are scary when you are a senior?

10.) Did you hear about (insert senior that's dating a sophomore)?

11.) Did you hear about (insert senior that's dating a freshmen)?

12.) "I'm going to every dance this year regardless of whether I have a date or not!”

13.) Asking your closest friend to be your date to semi... again.

14.) Sending countless emails to your guidance counselor asking how to fill out college applications. And to review your scholarship essay. And FAFSA.

“I know you showed me this at our last two meetings, but am I doing it right?”

15.) Your friend: I applied to 3 colleges

You: Wait.. Should I be doing that already?

16.) "I am a senior, I do what I want!"

*doesn't do homework once, sees how much your GPA goes down, never misses an assignment again.*

17.) The thought of not having the best school year ever makes you emotional.

Even when things are going great.

18.) Every school event makes you emotional. Even the ones you dread.

19.) You suddenly love all of your classmates, even the ones you have never gotten along with.

20.) You are in denial that high school is going to end.

15 Times "Parks and Recreation" Summed Up Your Library Experience

"I've only slept nine hours over the past four days, so I'm right on the verge of a nervous breakdown." - Leslie Knope

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
