For most of you, your freshman year starts in a little over a month. Being at Mississippi State during the first month will be overwhelming because of everything going on, but these are some things that you have to do immediately to truly embrace your new home in good ol' Starkville.

1. Eat at Stromboli's  mainly the cookie dough bites.

2. Join in during formal recruitment.

3. Go to the refuge with your friends.

4. Go watch a movie at the tiniest movie theater you'll probably ever see in your life.

5. Eat at Oby's. They have the best rotel, and I know I'm not the only one obsessed with rotel.

6. Go to the district on a Thursday night. Any night really.

7. Get a sprinkles biscuit from The Biscuit Shop. Or a chocolate chip, or a blueberry, or any one really.

8. Invest your flex dollars on all the iced coffee and bagels from the Einstein's in the library that you can.

9. If you're in a sorority or fraternity, invite random people to every date party. It's the fastest and easiest way to get to know a lot of people.

10. Get cheese fries from the Bin at 2 o'clock in the morning. I prefer them with bacon; it seriously makes them 10 times better.

11. Go to North Farm. It's hidden and not a lot know about it but it's a cool spot to hang out.

12. Apply for as many clubs and organizations as you can. Even if you don't get in or anything at all, it's a good way to meet people and gain interview skills.

13. Go to Casa Bravo and order a Starkvegas quesadilla and thank me later.

14. Go to 929. They have the best coffee and it's a really cool place to study.

15. Order Insomnia cookies as much as you can. They deliver until 2 a.m.

16. Bake cookies in your dorm kitchen one night with all of your friends.

17. Go to all of the football games. Because this is the cheapest you'll ever get to go and there's nothing like being a student at your first college game.

18. Attend all of the concerts that go on, they're usually cheap and a good time.

19. Participate in intramural sports.

20. Study and go to class.

Seriously cannot stress the last one enough. With all the fun that is to come, do not forget why you are here and why you are paying to be here. Enjoy your freshman year, it flies by quicker than you think!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
